First public beta of the installer available now

I'm pleased to announce the first public beta release of the Installer.
This version of the installer will install DotNetNuke 4.3.4.

You can download it now from the project download page.

I'm inviting everyone to give it a try and give me some feedback on it.

If you find any problems, please report them in the issue tracker (it's best to discuss any problems in the forums first before posting them in the issue tracker).
If you want to discuss the installer, you can do so in the project forums.

Re: First public beta of the installer available now

Nice installer geert, I tried it yesterday. Unfortunatly I tried it on an XP home box.

It tried to install IIS, wich is not possible. Maybe you could insert a check for XP HOME and warn the users if they are running XP HOME.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Will put a check for XP Home in the next version.

Re: First public beta of the installer available now

Nice installer Geert,

Tried it yesterday on a virtual machine, as it didn't have IIS, it started to install it. Unfortunately, the installation of IIS did not finish correctly, but the DNN installer thought everything was OK and happily went on installing until it errored later on. You might want to stop the installer when something is missing, and have people restart it.

(of course afterwards everything went through smoothly)

Re: First public beta of the installer available now
An installer is just what DNN needs, it is quite tricky to get it working on the first time install, and since that was so difficult one hesitates to do an upgrade and risk getting into new trouble.
Two questions:

1) Will the Installer work on a hosted server?
2) Can I use the Installer to upgrade from a previous version of DNN (still running 4.02) or is it just for fresh installs?

With DNN it seems it is extremely easy to upgrade modules, just uploading them. But when it comes to DNN itself it takes some knowledge above average to manage it. If the installation and upgrading of DNN itself is simpler the usage of DNN will grow even faster!

/S
