4.3.5 Upgrade

Is there a way to incorporate the upgrade changes to the installer program? Quite honestly , if it wasnt for the installer program I would not be able to load dotnetnuke.  I have spent the last 2 days trying to create a new site from the 2005 express and cant get past all the errors.   I had to delete everything and use the installer to get back to the lessons.

So for this has been much harder to operate than any of the PHP CM I used but I can see that this program goes far beyond where postnuke , phpnuke etc, stopped, so I keep trying.

Re: 4.3.5 Upgrade

update of your site should not be as hard as the initial installation, you should be able to perform this manually:

  • backup your database and DNN installation folder
  • rename your web.config to backup.config
  • unzip upgrade package (w/o modules) or install package (with latest module upgrades) into the DNN installation folder root (where web.config and default.aspx reside)
  • rename release.config to web.config (upgrade package only)
  • open backup.config and web.config using a text editor - "Visual" Notepad is good enough for this ;)
  • cut and paste the following strings from backup.config to web.config:
    • both sql connection strings
    • both encryption keys
    • down in sql dataprovider section ObjectQualifier and DatabaseOwner values
  • save web.config
  • hit your site to start upgrade process
  • have fun!
