Dogfooding DotNetNuke 04.05.00

As of about 11:30pm PST Tuesday, we are dogfooding DotNetNuke 4.5.0 on www.dotnetnuke.com.  The site was down for approximately 4-5 minutes while upgrading.

Re: Dogfooding DotNetNuke 04.05.00

Why do we dogfood?  So you don't have to!

Our Platinum Benefactors have been looking over the 4.5.0 feature set and release candidates with us and provided some excellent feedback.  As of RC2, some of them are also doing what we're doing... subjecting 4.5.0 to real-life, honest-to-God, significant volume, scale & load.  Guess what?  We found a bug!

The good news is that we know what it is and although high-impact, is low effort to resolve.  The short answer is really as simple as a frequent DB call that is not being cached properly.  Naturally, this will be remedied before we release.  The updates will be applied to www.dotnentuke.com sometime tonight and appear in the next RC as quickly as possible.

In the meantime... we apologize for your experience interacting with a sluggish site today... but take it easy on us... we do this for you!

Cheers

Re: Dogfooding DotNetNuke 04.05.00

Dogfooding continues to pay off... for you *grin*.  We've also encountered some file permissions issues which we are still diagnosing... On a clean install of 4.5.0, things are working just fine (minor known bug in there)... but in our upgrade we've stumbled into some issues which are keeping you from downloading our site files.  To answer the question, yes... we do pre-test our own upgrades... but a full regression test takes a couple of days to accomplish and this one slipped through.

We are hard at work.

In case you haven't noticed... performance on www.dotnetnuke.com is restored.  The primary performance item has been addressed and a coulple of other candidates are being looked at.  There are a few more issues still being investigated prior to assembly of a new RC.

Re: Dogfooding DotNetNuke 04.05.00

Release of 4.5.0 has been delayed in order more carefully address a few issues raised during the early release program and our own dogfooding exercise.  Please see Shaun's announcement here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/BlogsDotNetNuke/tabid/825/EntryID/1366/Default.aspx
