Thank you, Chris and Tam, for all the hard work put into the forum module.

Double Thanks to Chris for the 62 page "Getting Started" User Guide.

Request:  Can you guys please add "anonymous posting" to your list for the next release?  It would also be cool if you guys can devise a way to specify forums to be totally anonymous, this means... even if a user is logged in, that forum will make he/she anonymous.

Question:  I have tried several ways to configure the forum to mimic these requirement, but nothing has worked.  Can you guys give me few ideas?

Re: Anonymous Posts

There are no plans to ever make the forums to allow anonymous postings. To my knowlege, most don't allow this but I am sure there is at least one exception.  Even if you wanted to code this yourself, I think you are in for way more work than you think.  Just thinking about adding this is starting to make my head hurt.  The entire system, I mean every single piece of the module would need rewritten.

If you wanted anything like this, I don't think a full forum implementation is what you want.  It seems to me this type of thing would be better suited by using the discusssion module, or something similar.

The alias field now currently allows a user to be totally anonymous in a sense.  They can change the alias name and blank out their profile information and choose not to have their email address shown in their profile.

Re: Anonymous Posts

Thank you Chris for the fast reply.  For what I need, the discussion module will not do.  I have tried it. :)

Additionally, even though the post will be anonymous, I need the posts to be moderated.  Also, my users would not appreciate having to login to post and the look of a forum looks much better than the dicussion module look.

If I were to modify the module, what would I have to pay close attention to?  I am thinking about using a modified version for the anonymous posts and your forum module on the same page.  What do you think?
