Email Notification

Hi,

I am using DotNetNuke version 4.0.3 and Forum 3.20.06.

When a new post is created the Forum users will receive an email notification, how do I attach the forum name to the notification subject? eg. there are forums: Interests, General, Information, etc.. in one group, the notification subject line is something like: [Interests] Mountain Hiking.   Or [Information] How to create a thread....

I don't have setting Manage Templates in Email Settings.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Email Notification

i fear your only option is to upgrade to a newer version of DNN and a newer forums version. Mind you: numerous security issues have been fixed since dnn 4.0.3, check the security bulletins on this site

Re: Email Notification

I wouldn't rush into updating your versions just yet... not the forums module anyway!

It's got plenty of bugs which have remained unfixed for close to a year, and although the subject can have the forum name included... notifications don't really work in the latest version!!!

If notifications are important to you in maintaining a forum community that knows when replies are sent... stay away from the latest 'buggy' version.

Re: Email Notification

I am not sure what your problem is with the Forum 04.03.00 version.  There is one known bug on seding Notifications, if the user checkes the Notification checkbox on threat or post site.  A other issue is tha on deleting the notification to the user is empty. These are the only 2 issues what are reported on the Forum 04.03.00.

On my Forum which is a upgraded Forum from 03.x version, worked well.  But I had several issues with the old 3.x Forums about they have much of issues in the SQL with missing databaseOwner and ObjectQualifier in there scripts.  This does many issues on databases using a other databaseOwner as teh standard, or a objectQualifier.  And I as I have test the latest version before release doing my best to come over to issues before we release it, but it can not make sure it is a bug free version.

I can be understanding why you afraid over the feature you need and it worked not probertly for you, but it's not productively you expresses yourself here.  This is a Open Source and the community lifes from the idea of the users.  Divide your know however remains fair.

Re: Email Notification

Hi Matthias

A little surprised, and shocked that you are now saying these are the only known bugs.

I've mentioned it numerous times here, as have others and it just seems moderators are blissfully unaware, and choose to remain unaware of the issues many of us are having.

Forum notifications simply aren't working properly, subscribing to a thread can lock up on the ability to start threads (hope that's a known issue)... but as for general users they'd be lucky to see notifications at all.  I've not had them from DNN for a long time now! (near a year or so).

Here are some of the relevant forum posts to help your memory:

I spent weeks trying to sort it before you said it was a known bug.  And that was back in March this year (I was away the 3 months prior to this).

I, and others can appreciate the work involved... but a lot of us have been waiting over half a year to see a bug fix in the module. Bit of a worry if now we're being told it's not a known issue.
