Error Creating control
Modified By John Fall on 6/29/2005 11:14:26 AM)

I am having a problem with the forum_container.ascx. Error Creating control (the only one on the ascx)

I installed the module by following these steps:

  1. Installed the PA
  2. Unzipped the Source and copied over the files in ~DesktopModules/Forum folder
  3. Compiled the source (no errors)
  4. Verified that the forum loads (it does)
  5. Verified that the Forum_Container.ascx loads (it does)
  6. attempted to view the ascx in Visual Studio

Error Creating Control

I bet I am missing something simple, but help would be appreciated

the ascx is:

%@ Register TagPrefix="dnn" Namespace="DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum" Assembly="DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum" %> <%@ Control language="vb" Inherits="DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.Container" CodeBehind="Forum_Container.ascx.vb" AutoEventWireup="false" %>

Re: Error Creating control

I am guessing the error is only seen in vs.net, is this true?

If that is the case it probably means there isn't a dll copied locally.  The upcomming release has a better project structure to avoid these type of issues.  There are also lots of enhancements and bug fixes.  The next release is another 1-2 weeks out.

Crispy,

Anything I can do in the meantime to resolve this error?

After further looking, I referenced the DNN.WebUtility and DNN.WebControls (holdover from DNN 3.0.13?) and it removes the error referencing in Visual Studio.

However...

There appears to be no interface for DNNForums. Am I missing something, or does the reference to itself serve some other purpose than to make the module particularly obtouse? [:)]

Thanks for your help.

Re: Error Creating control

The biggest thing you can do is open up the dnn project first using the DotNetNuke.All.sln.  Then you should build this successfully at least once before digging into the forums.  Everything should be fine at this point aside from some various cannot copy errors that still allow you to compile.  To eliminate those you need to make references to items like CountryListBox and MemberRole and others pointed to controls folder at dnn root and choose copy local ='s true.
