The navigation is a solpart menu.  This refers to a cache object all of its own.  When you change a name it may not be updating that cache, i honestly never checked.  I do know that on my test install i wrote the document with I did rename the forums and just double checked and all is well. 

On another note, the only major issue aside from a configuration one which is easily fixed, involves this menu.  The menu also slows down performance of the site.  My advice is to disable this feature anyways from the configuration settings screen.
