I'm trying to get my head around this AJax stuff........
 
I'm currently working on a DNN 3.2.2 project that sells theater tickets online.  I've got the modules mostly completed, but I just can't help myself wanting to use the latest stuff.  One of my modules displays a seating diagram for 200 theater seats as buttons that indicate the seat's status; available, unavailable, or selected by the current user.  I think that this module would benefit from Ajax, but just can't figure out the direction to take.
 
Does this sound like a good candidate for Ajax?  Can you suggest any examples that would be similar?

One possible use is if you want real-time updating of the theater theater as the seats become filled (something along the lines of BloodyFlux's UsersOnline module).  However, if you are simply trying to undestand what AJAX does for you I'd suggest thinking about what you could do if you could automagically invoke a method on the server, from the client.  This could be something cool, or it could be something boring, like updating data from a page.

Where do I put my server side code? 

Would it go here:

Public Function RaiseClientAPICallbackEvent(ByVal eventArgument As String) As String Implements DotNetNuke.UI.Utilities.IClientAPICallbackEventHandler.RaiseClientAPICallbackEvent

So, if a user clicks a "seat" button it would pass it's current status, then in the RaiseClientAPICallbackEvent I could save that selection to the database?

The BloodyFlux looks pretty cool, I wish the source was available.

I guess that the client polls the server for updates based on a timer event?

Yes, I suggest looking at the HelloAjax sample module I provide in the download section.  I also recommend reviewing the ClientAPI Client Callback document there as well (if you haven't already).

Yes, the seat could be reserved to the database, additionally you could continuously poll for the current seat availablility by sending down a delimited list of seats and their statuses...
