Flag/Locale choices - mostly for admin so what's the point in choice?

I've been wanting to use the localisation, with flags for quite some time.

No problem getting the flags showing and pages switching from one locale to another - but what is the point of this apart from changing the DNN admin text?

I still can't change menu text, or text/html or other modules to be different for each locale... and I can't set modules to a particular locale (eg. having a different text/html for each locale)...

so I am wondering, apart from giving users the ability to see the DNN CMS side in another language, and maybe some other minor changes - what is the point?

And how do I really make use of this and having websites developed for multi-locales?

From what I see, I have to rely on 3rd party modules for this... something I've had a lot of headache with in the past and does mean adding and moving quite a lot of modules... and then only seems to be text/html, not the other things... so is there even a current solution or will we just have to wait for DNN v5.1x ?

Sorry, but it just seems a little half-baked... and the searches I've done here just show up things from around 2006.

Re: Flag/Locale choices - mostly for admin so what's the point in choice?

Hi David,

I am not sure I fully understand you. Best is too use the multilingual modules of Apollo. They will not allow you all modules to be working in multilingual mode, but at least you can hide/show a page and move a module on that. so one page nl-nl for Dutch forum and nl-be for Belgium forum.

Please do not hestitate to ask more information.

J.

Re: Flag/Locale choices - mostly for admin so what's the point in choice?

Thanks J

I will look into the Apollo modules as it might  looking for.

What I am really getting at - is the DNN core allows you to have multiple locales setup for a website... so the user can choose each one.  I understand that for exampel a Polish business using DNN will benefit from having it all in Polish to administer.

What I don't understand the real point in the Core allowing several locales to be enabled when none of the actual site content can benefit from this - only administrators needing different languages (though I struggle to get that to work properly myself).

Maybe I'm just missing the point, but it makes no sense to do half the job in allowing the core system to handle multiple locales, but none of the core modules!

Apollo Software - Harm Your Computer - Malware?

I just did a Google search for Apollo and it says:

Apollo Software

This site may harm your computer.

Has me a bit worried - saying there's malware on it.  Is this reason for concern

Re: Apollo Software - Harm Your Computer - Malware?

I spent today's evening with the site owner (and his girl friend and a few beers) and he didn't look dangerous at all

Anyhow, www.apollo-software.nl is owned by Core Team fellow Erik van Ballegoij and for sure safe to visit.
