Re: Do language files get overwritten on upgrade?

Rodney, if you want to make sure your changes to the resx files are kept during upgrade, you should use the "host" option in Host > Language > Language editor. That way, seperate files will be created that will not be overwritten during upgrade. Using the Host option will ensure that your changes will be used by all portals of this instance.

Also: you should do backups before you upgrade ;)

Re: Do language files get overwritten on upgrade?

oh scratch my last post.. i should read better...

anyhow, you are correct Rodney, its not very straightforward. We will look at enhancing the language editor in the near future, and maybe this is something we can look at too

Re: Do language files get overwritten on upgrade?
Yes, please do Erik - it's a pretty reasonable assumption that most Admins WILL want to customize their profile and add custom profile properties, and then of those 80% will want to customize the help text (and validation string) of the property. Currently I copy my changes before and after each upgrade, but as you can imagine this is a real pain ;)

I assume the fix would be to allow the Language Editor to add resources to a file (when you go and view a file where resources were added manually it says "Click save to update the file"). I look forward to the change - I can help beta test it if necc...

I appreciate the great job you guys are doing!

Thanks,
Rodney
