New language - 8 hours job??

Hi - we have just gotten www.lpgolf.dk developed, and will now populate it with text and pictures. Then we talk to the developers (Russian company) and they tell us, that extending the site with a new language takes one full day . 8 hours.. This seems a bit crazy to me, can anybody share knowledge base with us.

Taken from messager

XX says: well, here are the tasks that we would need to do for each language:
XX says:
- create site structure
- new language menu creation
- new language static pages creation
- addition of language switch option
- on-line store customization (goods category creation)
XX says :if there are a lot of pages (like last time - about 30 of them) this gives us 8 hours

Can this be true, we are looking to extend it with 6 languages?

Steen

Re: New language - 8 hours job??

Steen,

it simply depends, how multiple languages have been implemented for your site:

  • a landing page with different portals for each language - this allows greatest flexibility andindividual content per portal, but requires more effort for setup and maintainance
  • a single portal with multilingual modules - this requires special modules, but the portal has in all languages the same pages and modules and is easier to setup and maintain

It depends, what had been the needs, you declared when developing the concept for your portal. For the first version, 8h for an additional portal are IMO justified, in the second case adding another language should be possible with less effort - but be aware, that you will need to provide every content simultaneously in every language - with 6 languages, this can become a nightmare!
