How to show Language DropDown

Hi,

I have DNN 4.8.2.

When I Add more languages to mysite, they show up as Flags on the pages.

I would rather like to show language selection as DropDownList (because if my site supports 10 different languages, they will lineup across the site layout and it becomes messy)

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks in advance.

Re: How to show Language DropDown

Hello pullp,

If you'd rather show the dropdown menu for the language selection, you can modify the skin options inside the skin's Ascx file you are using.

For example, the default Asxc Skin file used after a fresh DNN installation is: 'Horizontal Menu - Fixed Width.ascx', which is stored inside the '<InstallRoot>\Portals\_default\Skins\DNN-Blue' folder.

Inside that file, you should look for the following code:

<dnn:LANGUAGE runat="server" id="dnnLANGUAGE" showMenu="False" showLinks="True" />

...and chance it to:

<dnn:LANGUAGE runat="server" id="dnnLANGUAGE" showMenu="True" showLinks="False" />

And that's it. HTH.

Saludos,
Alejandro.

Thank You Alejandro!

It now displays I wanted. I was playing with some language packs to see how it looks..I got Chinese (Taiwan) language pack and installed it.

When I view in IE, the option displayes as square boxes in drop down list but when I view in Firefox, it shows actual characters. Both browsers have their encoding set to UTF-8.

Any idea?

additionally please note: if you are using an HTML skin you need to add the attributes to the XML file.
