Register Tooltips
Modified By Tikkune on 7/26/2007 9:11:30 PM)

DotNetNuke 4.3.5

I am looking to make language modifications to the help/tooltips displayed on the Register screen.  I have searched Language Editor but cannot find the tooltip text.  Where is the Register tooltips help text stored?  When I mouse over the "?" Help on the User Name field (for example), it points to:

__doPostBack('dnn$ctr$ManageUsers$User$UserEditor$_ctl0$Username_Label_cmdHelp','')

... but I am not sure in what file to look for that help text.  From another post about Help I saw mention of .resx files containing help text.  But when I look in the ManageUsers.ascx.resx file thinking it could be there, the Register help text I see on the screen does not seem to be there. Any 'help' would be much appreciated. :)

Changing Register Tooltips and Text Labels

It's been almost a year since my first post about this, but still I have not come across a solution or heard a conclusive answer.

Asking again: Can we change any of the text labels on the Register screen, for example, the 'User Name' label?

Re: Changing Register Tooltips and Text Labels
Tikkune, If you try to translate the TOOLTIP message that pops up on mouse hoover over the question mark on the left of each field in the Register form... forget about it. Those strings are hard-coded and are not available for editing. At least using the Resx localization files.

If you will only have one language available for your site, and it is not english, you can edit the core files. But if you want those tooltips to change upon different selected languages, you will have to wait for a DNN's release that has this item fixed.

Maybe Vicenç is reading this post and he can take care of getting this small fix done.

Saludos,
Alejandro.

Re: Changing Register Tooltips and Text Labels
Modified By Tikkune on 7/26/2007 9:09:48 PM)

I recently made a suggestion to support.dotnetnuke.com that Language Editor have a Search function. Then it could be easier to locate language that we Admins see on screen messages, or email notifications - language that we see the need to modify.

Other keys have been easier to find, but this one really escaped me for the longest time. Here it is - the key to changing the 'User Name' language on the default Register page (and other Register screen language text, too):

\admin\Users\App_LocalResources\User.ascx.resx
UserInfo_Username.Text

Now, if I could just find where we can modify the Help/Tooltip for the Register screen 'User Name' field...

UserInfo_Username.Help

Mouse-over tooltip still says 'Username' and I'm not sure where to change that one, but I'll keep looking...

Thank you for confirming that tooltips are not easily changed. Since I am a DNN Administrator, not a Developer, and I couldn't re-compile DNN source to save my mother's life, I depend on the RESX means to customize. And for my DNN installations, I have only one language installed: English installed by default w/ core.

I made a post this morning about offering to do something to improve the default English language text, including tooltips:

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/118/threadid/156087/scope/posts/Default.aspx

Would you clarify for me, please: are you saying that if I had another Language Pack installed, and there was only one Language Pack in an installation, I could edit the core files used to render Register Tooltips, for example? I have not worked with Language Packs at all, so excuse me if this is a question filled with ignorance.
