Re: search engines: crawling all languages

Erik,

I don't see how meta tags or regular html links could help. Isn't the issue that we have a single URL for both languages? Seems natural that Google cannot index two pages with the exact same URL.

I've looked at several mulilanguage DNN sites and none have been indexed properly exept for the default language.

Re: search engines: crawling all languages
A single url for both addresses is of course significant but a url like:

www.yourdomain.com/default.aspx?language=en-US
www.yourdomain.com/default.aspx?language=de-DE

or
www.yourdomain.com/language/en-US/default.aspx
www.yourdomain.com/language/de-DE/default.aspx

takes care of this.
:)
(I have several sites indexing well)
I'll be interested to see how the automatically generated google sitemaps are handled in the new DNN (if it takes this into account).

Re: search engines: crawling all languages

The issue is that when you change langague the url looks like yours:

www.yourdomain.com/language/en-US/default.aspx
www.yourdomain.com/language/de-DE/default.aspx

But once you start to navigate through the site the 'en-US' or 'de-DE' dissapears. Exacly the same behavior as the site

http://www.deutschnetnuke.de

This site is almost only index in english and not in german by Google.

Re: search engines: crawling all languages
FWIW, i am working on a new version that will render SEO friendly urls for navigation objects (that means: language parameters in the urls) (no ETA though)

Re: search engines: crawling all languages
What are you working on a new version of?

Ideally I guess the menus would render the language (if enabled) in the url.  Or is there a generic DNN routine that fills navigateURL that could be updated so that all links will render regardless of menu system (eg. housemenu, dnn menu, solpart or others).
