Problems supporting en-GB

I'm using DNN 4.3.6 and I support multiple language on my site.  I'm having problems supporting en-GB as a locale on my English/Spanish site.  I have looked at a couple of similar posts on this site but I can't seem find a solution.

When I select English (UK) from the language dropdown, then the date formats etc convert to English but the framework text remains in Spanish.  I expected that with my fallback language set to en-US then these resource files would be used with the en-GB settings.

Can I achieve this or am I really going to have to create a .en-GB.resx  set?

My locales.xml file reads as follows:-

  <language name="English (United States)" key="en-US" fallback="" />
  <language name="English (United Kingdom)" key="en-GB" fallback="en-US" />
  <language name="Español (España)" key="es-ES" fallback="en-US" />

I also have en-US disabled in Host-Languages (so only UK and ES appear in the dropdown).

My web-config file has the following:-

    <globalization
      culture="en-GB"
      uiCulture="en"
      requestEncoding="UTF-8"
      responseEncoding="UTF-8"
      fileEncoding="UTF-8"/>

I have the default resx files and a set of .es-ES.resx files.

I normally use the language selector from Apollo, but I have tested it with the dnn selector and the results are the same.

Many thanks for any input

Re: Problems supporting en-GB

OK - I've got it to work but it doesn't seem like a real solution.

I'ver removed the line

<language name="English (United States)" key="en-US" fallback="" />

from locales.xml and now switching between Spanish and English GB works fine (i.e. loads the US resx files).

But doesn't this mean that i can't have a US portal on this DNN installation? - after all this is at the site and not the portal level

Re: Problems supporting en-GB

The problem is that you have en-US disabled. That's why the resources for that language are not used. When you disable a language it will not be used at all (except if it is en-US and no other locale can be used). In your case since en-US is disabled, and I suppose you portal default is es-ES, the spanish resources are used. The only way to solve this is to enale en-US.

Re: Problems supporting en-GB

What I want to achieve though is to have en-GB on my portal and not replicate all the resx files.  I would have thought that if I enable en-US, en_GB and es-ES at the site level and then disable en-US at the portal level, then en-GB would use en-US as the fallback, but this didn't seem to work (I've haven't tried it on 4.4), es-ES was used as the fallback for en-GB.

Does setting a fallback language really work or will the portal default be used first?

Re: Problems supporting en-GB

If it were enable it would be used, but since it is not, it fallsback to the portal default.

I think you might want to take a look at apollo language selector. It has some options to map a language to another one, that maybe will solve your case.
