Future additions to Help?

Hello,

Are the following intended as future additions to the Help Module, and if so, what is the timeline:

- reading Tutorial ID's from the querystring to load the specified tutorial directly (enhanced context-sensitivity)

- allowing the locations of Category Names and Descriptions, and the locations of Tutorial Titles, Short Descriptions and Descriptions to be specified from any {table}.{field} (they could be referenced from the specified table using CategoryID and TutorialID)

Are there any plans to fix the tutorial numbering (e.g. my first tutorial in a series is numbered 2 of 4, and my final 2 tutorials in a series are both numbered 4 of 4).

Any information is appreciated.

Thanks,

Miki

Re: Future additions to Help?

1. You can already do, it also opens the category tree at the correct location.

2. Are yountalking about a template for the layout of the item here?  If so you should add it as a feature request in Gemini at support.dotnetnuke.com.

3. Already fixed in current code base just needs a few otehr items finished and it will be released.

Re: Future additions to Help?
Hello Philip,

Many thanks for the reply.

1. My understanding is that currently a specific tutorial cannot be opened by specifying the Tutorial ID in the querystring. Have I misunderstood? I realize that the category tree can be opened to the correct location (using 'helpmodule' or 'cid' parameters in the querystring), but I would need to be able to open individual specified tutorials (for example by placing "tid=7" in the querystring). Is this currently implemented (and if not is there a timeline for its implementation)?

2. Right now, the data (tutorial description, tutorial short description, etc.) is retrieved from the Help_Category, and Help_Tutorial tables, from various fields. If possible, I would like to be able to specify, which table and which fields the data should come from (the rows could still be referenced by TutorialID's and CategoryID's). Is this possible, and if so what would the timeline be?

3. Perfect.

Thanks so much for the reply.

Miki

Re: Future additions to Help?

1. http://www.dotnetnuke.com/About/DotNetNukeOnlineHelp/tabid/787/TID/1083/cid/51/Default.aspx try a URL like that.  takes you directly to the tutorial.

2. No plans to do anything like that and i can't envisage a reason why you would.  Can you give me a scenario?

Cheers

Re: Future additions to Help?
Hello Philip,

Thanks for the reply.

2. I would like to use the Help Module with a component that involves a data dictionary (stored in the database). I would prefer to extract the content for the tutorials from this dictionary (rather than replicating this content in the Help_Tutorial table). The table(s) defining the data dictionary are a required component for an application. Thus, it would be useful if I was able to specify somewhere that the tutorials should be extracted from {mytable}.{myfield}.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Miki
