Login Page Gone
Modified By William Bryer on 2/8/2006 6:45:28 AM)
I misunderstood the site setting for Change Login Page. I thought I could move it to just one page. It changed the login page to be a page on my site. Now I can't login to fix it. Please help!!!! My husband is a programmer but is away. -Kelly

Re: Login Page Gone

Hi Kelly,

Don't feel too bad.  I am a programmer with 15 years experience and the same thing just happened to me.  I created a new tab, added the Account Login module, changed my site login page setting to this new page and logged out.  Now I can't log back in.  I found a field in the Portals table called LoginTabId.  It was set to the tab id of my new page.  I thought nulling it out and refreshing IE would send it back to the previous page, but I had no luck.  I am getting tired and will spend some more time with it tomorrow.  If you were able to solve this or any readers know how to get back to my login page.  I would greatly appreciate it.  I would also love and explanation of what I did wrong.  I thought the steps were intutive.  I certainly did not expect to be locked out of my site.

Thanks in advance,

- Doug

Re: Login Page Gone

Hi All,

It turns out the step I failed to do was give the "All Users" group read access to my new login tab.  Had I done that in the first place, I probably would not have had any problems.  I am not sure why nulling out the LoginTabId field of my portal's record in the Portal table did not immediately send me back to the core DNN login page.  But the following morning I was able to get access back to my site.  I guess there is some kind of caching going on.  Just for good measure, I gave "All Users" read access to my new login tab and changed my site login page setting to this new tab and logged out.  When I logged back in, I did get redirected to my new tab.

Anyhow, I hope this helps someone else out there.

- Doug

Re: Login Page Gone

Try this first add ctl=login to the URL.  eg www.dotnetuke.com/default.aspx?ctl=login .

If that doesnt work then what you eed to do is gain access to your database and update the LoginTabID in the Portals table and set it to NULL.  Then open the web.config file (you'll need server access or FTP) make a minor change like adding nd removing a space.  Then reload the web.config.  This will cause the site to restart and as such dump any cached values and you should be able to access you login.
