Fantastic walk through - I had it up and running in minutes.

Now, how can I give people anonymous access to the site, but the login page would have them login to the domain?

Thanks,
RushB

Anyone? I want the site to navigable (sp?) by anyone, and only ask for the username/password when clicking on the login link. Is there also a way to set the domain somewhere in the script, much like you can for Outlook Web Access so you don't have to put the domain in front of the username?

This is for a school web site, so I need it to be simple.

Thanks,
RushB

Yes, there is....  but you have to dig around other posts until you find the person who built the script for it.  If I knew off the top of my head, I would tell you, but sadly, I don't.  However, it is in these AD forums somewhere, I've seen it.

I run it for a school website also, and there is no easy answer for you.  I had to "comment out" the authentication line in the web.config file, and point everyone to the windowsignin.aspx file to get it working.  Otherwise, everyone, including the general public, would get a login prompt upon visiting the website.

Re: Install Active Directory for beginners like me!

Hi all,

I'm getting an error stating windows authentication is unavailable. I've followed Kimberly's steps to a T and each time I click update I get the same error message.

An error has occurred.
Error: Windows Authentication is currently unavailable.

My setup:

DNN 4.3.4 Install

Windows server 2000

SQL Express 2005

ASP.NET 2.0

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, David

Re: Install Active Directory for beginners like me!
Excellent walk through.

I'ts very easy to understand...

catsnak:

Are you sure the domain is OK??

On my case the domain is:
dc=local,dc=bitbrain,dc=com,dc=ar

I'ts using AD "full" notation not the DNS name.

On one of my tests I've used this to authenticate with a Linux DC and worked fine to me.
