Blog Module Settings

Hey all -

I recently installed the blog module on a site and wanted it to show 10 posts per page with some sort of image button at the bottom/top of the page where users could navigate to the rest of the pictures.  Is this at all possible?

Re: Blog Module Settings

Hi the_one,

are you planning to use the blog module as an image gallery? Whilst it is not it's primary aim, it is possible, indeed. You could create your "gallery" blog and place two instances of the module in two different pages. In the first one you set Module Options > Basic Settings > Limit recent entries to: 10, then Advanced Settings > Show Blog Summary: yes, then Advanced Settings > Personal Blog Page: select your "gallery" blog. Then insert in the "gallery" blog's description the html markup to navigate to the second page: <a href="..."><img src="..." /></a>. In the second page you set Module Options > Basic Settings > Limit recent entries to: 0. You can use the entry description to place your thumbnail, then the entry body to place the full sized pictures. Let me know if this suits your needs.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Re: Blog Module Settings

I see where you are going with that.  I, however, could not get it to work.  I added a second page, named it something else and added the blog module to it.  The 'new' blog module came in with the exact same content as my first one.  I deleted them both and recreated them, but it seems like the database is hanging onto the settings and reapplying them when it sees a blog module.  I'm very new to DNN, so bear with me.  I am trying to display images on a page as an image blog.  The blog has everything that I would like the page to have: search functions, calendar to go straight to a date, descriptions if I feel like adding text and the ability to create different blogs with different content.

This may be my failure to understand how the blog module was built to be used.  I assumed that once I had set the max number of entries in the module settings, there would be some 'Previous' 'Next' buttons that would show up and allow the user to browse through the pages.  I'm still not sure if your procedure would provide me with this functionality.

Do you know of a module that would fit my needs better?

Re: Blog Module Settings

Hi the_one,

the Blog module was designed to accomplish more general publishing tasks. This is probably the reason my workaround doesn't fit completely your needs, but don't give up with it. I suggest you to give a look to an interesting module from Radiant: BlogDisplay. It is free, highly customizable and leverages on Blog module's architecture enhancing its displaying capabilities. In the Blog module the paging is provided by the calendar control, in BlogDisplay is handled using the DNN built in paging control, maybe this makes it more suitable to your needs. Let me know if you need further help.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa
