About the length of the summary

Hi,

I like to use the blog on the following way.

- In the summary I want to write a story with 1 picture.
- In the blog field I want to display pictures.

In module setting I have set:
- limit Blog summary to: = 0
- show Blog summary to: = V

When I edit the summary the length of the article is cut off to approximately 7 sentences.
Changing the value of limit blog summary to 1024 or 2048 does not help. When the summary is to long, it will cut off.

Is the length of the summary limited?
How do I do force a bigger summary ?

With regards, Ton Hermes

Re: About the length of the summary

Hi Ton,

This one threw me for a loop at first too.  It turns out that the length of the field at the database level is 1024, so this is why you're seeing the truncation of your summary data.  We've changed this to ntext in the next release to allow you to enter as much summary content as you want.  The 3.5 release is in the release tracker, so it will be out soon.

You can track the progress here:

Re: About the length of the summary

Hi Ton,

just to be more precise, note that the Show Blog Summary option will show again the entry summmary on the top of the entry view. The entry summary (if provided or automatically created) will anyway be shown in the blogroll view.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Re: About the length of the summary

I too would like to change the settings for my summary view, but I'm not able to find those settings anywhere! I am an administrator, and the creator of the blog on our site...but when I go to "Blog Settings" there is no options for viewing or limiting the summary. I'm feeling really dumb...where do I find these options?

Please help!

Re: About the length of the summary

Hi Thea,

I think the topic needs some clarification:

  • If a summary is provided by the blogger, then that summary it is used, disregarding any summary lenght limit. At the moment the blog team is considering the possibility to add a lenght limit in the next version of the module for the summary that is entered by the blogger.
  • If a summay is not mandatory and it is not provided, an automatic summary is generated based upon the entry body, and its lenght is set in Module Options > Limit Blog Summary To option.

You will need to log in as an administrator to change this setting. Let me know if it was not clear or if I misunderstood your question.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa
