If 5000 people created a blog - would the list of blogs paginate...or would it create a page that is a mile long?

Also - would the database hit be so significant potentially that the volume of data could get out of hand - any potentially lead to timeouts when querying blog data?

I think the app would work OK but the author list would be unusable.

You could remove the author list and write your own module to find authors.

Radiant is working on a BlogNavigate extension that may help you, but it isn't ready yet.

Just thought I would add my support for resolution of this. I want to be able to open up the ability for my registered users to be able to blog. But surely the intereface/navigation issues should be resolved in the same way big blogging sites work who have many more than 500 bloggers.

What is missing, is the ability to have moderator control of blogs. It would be useful if say a moderator had to approve blogs - or at least the bloggers first few posts. Also, the whole setup would need to be simplified - preferably with admin deciding all the settings except for Title and desciption. Many of my users struggle with figuring out how to post on a forum (seriously) - Trackbacks would make their heads explode.
