Re: Comment "posted By"

Hi Brandon Haynes,

going further, in my opinion the module should do both:

  1. Store userid for registered users (and userid=-1 for anonymous users);
  2. Give all users the possibility to provide a custom name they prefer.

If no custom name is given then anonymous users should receive "Anonymous" and registered users should receive their DisplayName.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Re: Comment "posted By"

Yep, I completely agree.  Did you confirm then that the blog comment table does not directly store an authenticated user's userId?  I haven't really looked at the table structure, so I wasn't sure off-hand.

If the original poster logs this as an issue, we can hammer out the details via comments in the work item.  Otherwise one of us will need to log it.

Brandon

Re: Comment "posted By"

Hi Brandon Haynes,

the Blog_Comments table already stores userID, only modifications to code would be required, take a look:

Screenshot of the Blog_Comments table.

When a logged in user leaves a comment his DNN username is stored in the Author field, and userID in the userID field as well. When an anonymous user leaves a comment, the userID field is left NULL, and the name he provides is stored in the Author field.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Re: Comment "posted By"

Hi Brandon,

Issue looks great.  Hopefully your suggestion will be incorporated into the next Blog version.

In the meantime, both you and I will need to make the source change and recompile a custom assembly.
