Moving Entry From 1 Blog To Another

Is there an easy way to move an entry from one blog to another?  Or is hacking around in SQL the only way?  I thought I would ask before going that route.  Thanks.

Re: Moving Entry From 1 Blog To Another

Hi Shawn,

unfortunately there's no built in feature to migrate entries from one blog to another, we're sorry. This is related to a security consistence with the bijective relation between users and blogs. However you can chose two ways to overcome this limit:

  1. The easiest is to copy & paste the entry from blog A to blog B. Remember to switch the editor to Source, so that all the raw HTML will be copied without any difference. Remember also to copy & paste the description (if any) and all the entry setting such ad copyright display. When you're done, delete the entry from blog A. This way the entry will be "cloned", but the entry date will change.
  2. If you have access to the database you can make the trick in a while, just updating the BlogID field in the Blog_Entries table to match your destination blog. Personally I use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express, it works fine and it is free.

Let me know if you need further help.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Hi Dario - thank you for taking the time to provide such a detailed response.  I'll go the SQL route...

Re: Moving Entry From 1 Blog To Another

Can an entry be easily moved from a parent blog to a child blog of that parent?  I did not use child blogs for categorization when I started my blog and now I regret it and would like to set-up the child blogs and "move" the entries into their appropriate categories ... Advice?

Thank you!

Re: Moving Entry From 1 Blog To Another

Hi jmurphy,

moving entries from a parent blog to one of its child blogs is much more straightfoerward. Just log in as the blog owner, locate the entry you want to move and click the Edit Entry link on the bottom. In the upper right corner there's a drop down list with the parent and child blogs where to place the entry.

When you're done remember to hit the Update link on the bottom of the page. Let me know if you need further help.
