DNN Search Results Category - Change from Blog to Articles

I am using the Blog module for Articles. I have everything in App_LocalResources and all ascx files updated so anywhere it displayed blog it's now Articles. When I added the module to the page on my site, I made sure it was called Articles. When the DNN search is run and pages from this module display, it says Blog - Title of Article. When I did a test of this process on my local dev workstation, the results showed Articles. I don't know what I did differently for that install to now have Blog display instead of Articles for DNN site search results. Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Thanks Kris

Re: DNN Search Results Category - Change from Blog to Articles

Hi Kris,

the problem with the DNN search is that it is performed relying on each module's implementation of the ISearchable interface. The blog module implements DNN search with that interface, but exposes the contents using the module's friendly name preceding all the entry titles. You can change it in Host > Module Definitions > Blog. I successfully did it on my test environment, and it worked fine, but it takes some experience, I suggest you to be careful with it. Don't forget to clean the search tables after the modify and re-index all the content.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Wow Dario, thanks for the details. Can you refer me to more information on how to clean the search tables and how to re-index? I'm new to DNN and just wading through all the details. Regards,Kris

Re: DNN Search Results Category - Change from Blog to Articles

Hi Kris,

I'm sorry  I didn't include some more details, I thought you did it before. So here is how to clean up the search tables:

  1. Log in as host
  2. Navigate to Host > SQL
  3. Check Run as Script and Execute these scripts:

delete {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}SearchItemWordPosition
delete {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}SearchItemWord
delete {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}SearchWord
delete {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}SearchItem

And how to re-index your content:

  1. Log in as host
  2. Navigate to the Host > Search Admin
  3. On the very bottom of the page click on the Re-Index Content link.

I hope this was more clear, but if not, please let me know.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa
