Is this right for me?

I am a student at Neumont University. I have been put in charge of our university forums. The previous administrator was working on getting blogging enabled for students but could fing a good engine for it. Currently, we use Dotnetnuke with the Yet Another Forum module for our forums. Would this Blog module be what I should use? Even if there is something out there that needs to be paid for, I have a rather large budget to get blogging up and running. The university IT department has said I can use whatever I want as long as it has "BB Code editor". I have no idea what that is but I need to have it. Is this the right blogging module for me or is there another you guys can reccomend?

Re: Is this right for me?

Hi Keith,

the core Blog module features the online HTML editor called fckEditor that is provided by DotNetNuke. It is very complete and easy to use, it can be used to edit entries and summaries. A BBCode editor is slightly different: only a reduced set of HTML tags are allowed, and are usually introduced by [rectangular brakets]. These editors are usually used in forums because administrators don't want their users to break the forum's layout with too much HTML. But bloggers generally do need much more freedom.

This said, I think that this module would suit your needs, and get blogging up and running on your install in a few minutes.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Awesome. Just to confirm, this is open source, right?

Re: Is this right for me?

Hi Keith,

yes, the Blog module, like DotNetNuke itself and all the other core modules are open source projects, all the releases will be available in two kind of packages:

  1. Install package, compiled and ready to install;
  2. Source package, all the needed files to start developing the module.

Feel free to ask this forum if you have any doubts about this project.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Re: Is this right for me?

I have clarified why we need the BB Code editor. Neumont University is a school specialized in Computer Science degrees. We have a lot of CS saavy users. One such user inject malicious javascript into a blog while we were using a differant module and caused quite the nuisance with a bug that made your mouse invisible and jump to a random location every 5 seconds.  So to prevent such injections at anytime in the future, we need a BBCode editor. Is there plans to add that to this module or are there modules that you know of that have BBCode editors and work on Dotnet nuke?
