OK,

I know this has been asked before but I need to ask again.

Does anyone have a list of some large websites that look professional.  We have been tasked to build a collage / membership website with over 183800 members.

I know DNN can handle the load and am excited to even offer this option.  The only issue we are running into is finding a few good example sites to show the client and sell them that they will not have a "cheap" looking portal site.  I love DNN and use it on a lot of sites but I have not taken it to the next level of having a large enough site with a non portal looking skin.

Thanks
Rick

Have a look at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/About/NewsRoom/tabid/703/Default.aspx. There are sites listed as showcases. My site is also listed www.smallbizserver.net but it is up to you if it is professional enough

Have you showed them all the Non-IT sites in the DotNetNuke Directory? There's loads of different looking sites for all sorts of things...

Thanks

Hi

Here are some of the portals we did

http://www.ngf.nl  ( heavily modified dnn1 site for the dutch golfing federation)

http://www.lecturama.nl ( dnn3 portal with modified catalook )

And the latest one I did at my regular job

http://z.nu.nl ( a large corporate news site we allready had more than 2000 users  online at the same time without a hickup - this site uses custom menus and tableless ksin for optimal performance - a custom framework was also developed to use standard usercontrol instead of redoing a lot of functionality as dnn modules each time. )

Here are some of my smaller "more design oriented) ones but they show you that the dont have to look like cookie cutter dnn sites

http://www.offshoreprogrammeur.com ( custom skin, custom menu and custom skinobject to generate dynamic images for moduletitles )

skin also tableless - no containers or anything all styling is done with pure css and overiding classes and cascading classes

http://www.schwingsoft.com

In general dnn can do what you want you just need to customize yourself. Altho a lot of sites likelike "cookie cutter dnn sites" you will find some gems out there.

This one I like a lot in case of nice clean skin as well as clear setup and still display posibillities for a lot of information and it never looks cluttered http://www.smallbizserver.net/

Well I suppose it's all in the person's perception of what is regarded as a portal looking site or not..

http://www.style.net.au
http://www.chalkartstudio.com
http://www.rmia.org.au (risk management association)
http://www.kltl.com (logisistics portal)
http://www.insideretailing.com.au
http://www.stationersonline.com.au (nearly finished)
http://www.zinc.com.au (advertising agency)

http://www.ventrian.com - (that has alot of members -same structure as smallbizserver - using similar modules)

http://www.ba-insight.net (sharepoint portal services)

I think it depends on the client's brief and design when it comes to sites that look or don't look like portals - I've done a large site which was really a fantastic design, nothing like I've ever seen a dnn site setup like - and I skinned that - but you know, these sites will become more commone when we find larger development companies that embrace DotNetNuke and have designers onboard who work hand in hand with the skinning team... and that is still a way off in my opinon, and while we see some fantastics sites around, alot of them are in fact designed by the dnn developer or templates converted to dnn.

I've got a swag of stuff I've not got online yet - simply due to time contraints, and in my opinion, they are very UN dnn looking.. but again, that's just my take on the matter.. and I think it requires people who know how to design working with people who know how to skin.. each has a role of it's own these days.

http://www.ventrian.com has volume, my site http://www.xd.com.au has some volume in traffic too - but not to the level you're talking about.

And, dont' forget, we have this site - http://www.dotnetnuke.com - that's a good example of how the framework can be used.
