DotNetNuke® Project :: Announcements Module

The announcements module is a basic module used for displaying news items on your site. During all DotNetNuke® versions, the module did not change very much, but starting from DNN 3.3.0, some new features have been added, with more to come.

Recently, the module was upgraded to ASP.NET 2.0, and requires DotNetNuke 4.6.2 to run. Currently the features are:

  • Abillity to add multiple announcements in one module
  • Support for ISearchable (Search and RSS)
  • Basic support for IPortable (Module import an export)
  • Items are templatable. Parsing of the templates is done by the DotNetNuke core token replace functionality

For the year 2008, the following new features will be implemented:

  • Paging
  • Inline detail view
  • Categories and / tags
  • Enhanced RSS feeds

Now that version 04.00.00 has been released, and 04.00.01 underway (in the release tracker now), I decided the time is right to expand the team. Let me first talk a bit about my ideas for the module for 2008. Right now, the module is a fairly simple one, and used in a lot of different ways, by a lot of different types of users. Version 4 brought some more flexibility in the templating system. The next set of enhancements will be major, because they will make the module more into a real news articles module.

I am planning for the following enhancments this year: paging, inline article detail view (without switching to the edit skin), some kind of category and/or tagging system, paging, enhanced RSS features, per item permissions, more granular permissions .... so.. a lot of work this year!

Until now, Néstòr Sanchez (current team leader of the gallery module) has been helping out with the module, but I'd like to have a few more people on the team. Specifically I am looking for a developer, a documenter (to write documentation and help texts), possibly a designer (to develop sample templates), and a few beta testers.

If you are interested in joining the team, please send me a mail at erik.vanballegoij@dotnetnuke.com. Please explain in your email why you want to join the team, tell me something about your experience etc.

I am looking forward to your reaction!
