DotNetNuke® Project :: Announcements Module

The announcements module is a basic module used for displaying news items on your site. During all DotNetNuke® versions, the module did not change very much, but starting from DNN 3.3.0, some new features have been added, with more to come.

Recently, the module was upgraded to ASP.NET 2.0, and requires DotNetNuke 4.6.2 to run. Currently the features are:

  • Abillity to add multiple announcements in one module
  • Support for ISearchable (Search and RSS)
  • Basic support for IPortable (Module import an export)
  • Items are templatable. Parsing of the templates is done by the DotNetNuke core token replace functionality

For the year 2008, the following new features will be implemented:

  • Paging
  • Inline detail view
  • Categories and / tags
  • Enhanced RSS feeds

It's very good to see more and more people creating new projects on DNN Forge. One thing that might not be very obvious, but very usefull nevertheless is tagging your project properly. I've been searching for DotNetNuke projects on CodePlex a few times now, and up untill now there are 45 projects on CodePlex that have something to do with dotnetnuke. I've added the tag DotNetNuke to all of them, which caused the tag "DotNetNuke" to be included in the popular tag cloud of CodePlex.

Another thing I noticed is that a lot of projects are not yet part of the DNN Forge, You can easily solve that: (quoting from the forge faq)

Please create your project in the DotNetNuke Forge and then contact us at forge@dotnetnuke.com and be sure to include the Title of your project in the Forge and the URL for your project page on CodePlexAfter creating the project in the DotNetNuke Forge you will be taken to CodePlex to complete the process.  Since you already have a CodePlex project, you should cancel the CodePlex screen and send an email to the above address to complete the process.

Re: Tag your Forge (CodePlex) Project!

I have tagged all the projects (the number of DotNetNuke tags is now >120). I have also tagged all 45 projects with DNN. DNN is not in the tag-cloud yet, but if everyone tags all DNN projects with both Tags they will both end up in the Tag Cloud.
