DotNetNuke® Project :: Blog Module

Weblog (aka "blog") is arguably one of the most popular categories of applications on the Internet today.  Naturally, this makes a Blog module a very important part of the DotNetNuke family of free BSD modules.  The DotNetNuke® Blog is actually a collection of related modules which comprise all the working parts of a Blog.  When you add the blog module to a page,  you actually add all of them (which you can choose to delete or move).  These presently include:

  • Menu: List of blog related actions that a user can take, based on permissions (e.g. changing settings, adding a post, etc).
  • Search: Utility for searching Blog content.
  • Roll: List of blogs on the site (or in some logical grouping)
  • Archive: Calendar indicating dates when blogs have been posted
  • Posts: Display of the lists and content of the blogs.

This blog module was contributed to DotNetNuke (and thus to you) by Hans-Peter Schelian, who based his work on a blog module originally developed by Matt Fraser for version 1.x.  Thanks to Matt for his initial vision, and to Hans-Peter for giving it continued life in version 2.x and 3.x.

The server tag is not well formed, oh my!

Recently Microsoft posted a patch that has caused many of you DNN Blog users a lot of grief, so much grief, that the Blog forum is floaded with topics such as: "HELP!", "CANNOT ADD BLOG" and so on.

First, let me say that I am not blaming Microsoft, in fact, this is clearly our fault! (See "How to Fix" section)

Symptom:When try to Edit or Add and new Blog entry you get the following error message:

Just a little more patience - we're almost there!

Folks,

I just wanted to give you a quick update on release 03.03.00. This version of the Blog is currently about to enter the "dog fooding" stage. (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Development/ProjectReleaseTracking/tabid/997/Default.aspx)

What this means, is that the module has passed most tests and that means that we are close; so close you can almost touch it.

On another note, we are already in full swing with the development of 03.04.00. I am planning for a release tracker submission around the end of June to mid-July. I will post another blog soon about all the new and exciting additions and changes.

Blog 3.03.00 Submitted for Review

Good news! The 3.03.00 version of the blog module was submitted to the DotNetNuke release tracker on April 1st, 2007 (I promise this is not another April's fool joke, I just happened to packaged it on that date ).

Spring is here, and the Blog Module is out of Hybernation. It's alive and well.

As the project description states, Blog applications are gaining more popularity and have become the medium of choice for the dissemintation and sharing of information. Blogs and Blog services are popping up everywhere.
