DotNetNuke® Project :: Blog Module

Weblog (aka "blog") is arguably one of the most popular categories of applications on the Internet today.  Naturally, this makes a Blog module a very important part of the DotNetNuke family of free BSD modules.  The DotNetNuke® Blog is actually a collection of related modules which comprise all the working parts of a Blog.  When you add the blog module to a page,  you actually add all of them (which you can choose to delete or move).  These presently include:

  • Menu: List of blog related actions that a user can take, based on permissions (e.g. changing settings, adding a post, etc).
  • Search: Utility for searching Blog content.
  • Roll: List of blogs on the site (or in some logical grouping)
  • Archive: Calendar indicating dates when blogs have been posted
  • Posts: Display of the lists and content of the blogs.

This blog module was contributed to DotNetNuke (and thus to you) by Hans-Peter Schelian, who based his work on a blog module originally developed by Matt Fraser for version 1.x.  Thanks to Matt for his initial vision, and to Hans-Peter for giving it continued life in version 2.x and 3.x.

Hello Folks,

As part of the Release Process, the module has successfully passed the *dog fooding* stage and the module was deployed here, on DotNetNuke.com. Yes, you are reading this blog on the latest version (03.04.00), so if you are interested in seeing some of the changes/fixes, do snoop around.

A big thank you to all the folks involved in the DNN release process, and big shout out to Scott Willhite for dog fooding it.

The packages will be deployed shortly to the downloads area- hang in there!

Great Job! - lots more functionality.

however, for me, the blog listing is hard to follow. can you change the styling to improve readablity or add a separator between blogs?

Re: Blog 03.04.00 on DotNetNuke.com

this is very nice!!! (ooops, the your comment must be approved s all over the place)

Re: Blog 03.04.00 on DotNetNuke.com

@afromobile: Right now the separator is the dotted line. You can easily modify this fromthe module.css file in this version and make it as prominent as you need to ;)

Re: Blog 03.04.00 on DotNetNuke.com

@afromobile: refresh your browser cache ([strg]+[shift]+[f5] in IE) , and the blog will look pretty nice.

Re: Blog 03.04.00 on DotNetNuke.com

Looking a lot more bloglike ;) Great stuff... as Brian pointed out there are some escape characters in the comment message that need fixing...

Re: Blog 03.04.00 on DotNetNuke.com

One more thing - is the name below the comment the DisplayName? The reason I ask is that the author name is "Antonio Chagoury" and the comment is "AntonioChagoury" - are they both DisplayName?

Re: Blog 03.04.00 on DotNetNuke.com

It does look much nicer. One question though. Is SEO on road map? Many thanks.

Re: Blog 03.04.00 on DotNetNuke.com

@AliCommerce: We made some considerable amount of changes to this version to accomodate the SEO requests. For example the title is with tags and the body is all done via DIV layouts. Let me know if you notice any improvements.

Re: Blog 03.04.00 on DotNetNuke.com

@rodneyjoyce: You can chose the format you wish to display this (username or display name) from the Blog Settings form. In this case, it is displaying my username and not my display name.

Re: Blog 03.04.00 on DotNetNuke.com

Awesome! all we need is an associated userphoto for the commentors but we'll probably need to wait till "Cambrian"... :(

By afromobile on   1/6/2008 10:11 PM

Re: Blog 03.04.00 on DotNetNuke.com

@afromobile: I thought about that already ;) -- you are right though... we need to start focusing on Cambrian now... although, I am getting ready to release something you will all appreciate (and add-on... *hint hint*).

Keep checking often :D

Awesome Antonio! This is indeed one giant leap....!

Looks cool so far. When can we expect a public release?

Re: Blog 03.04.00 on DotNetNuke.com

@meester_mike: The release process is in motion... should not be long now.

Re: Blog 03.04.00 on DotNetNuke.com

Much better but for some reason the font size on our comments is extremely small. Is there some way to set this?

I also have requests to be able to display the whole blog, not the sumary, as a default.

By mleidlein on   2/16/2008 8:48 PM

Re: Blog 03.04.00 on DotNetNuke.com

@mleidlein: Yes, you can change the font by modifying the module.css file that you will find in the DesktopModules\Blog folder.

Re: Blog 03.04.00 on DotNetNuke.com

First , It looks great, works great. few things I would like to see in there that one should be able to create global categories inorder to maintain a library. also the metapost option is n ot available as part of it one have to use a add on to use MS word 2007 or Live writer or any other application to publish the blog post.
