DotNetNuke® Project :: Chat Module
This is the homepage for the DotNetNuke Chat Module. The module is "in progress" and while we do have quite a list of features we'd like in it, we're focussing on creating a working basic version first.

So, I'd say it's about kick off time for the chat module. I consider the project team complete at the moment, since I got Martijn Hogenbirk to join the team. He's an experienced developer at Capgemini in the Netherlands and will prove his value to the project.

We've been going through the code donated generously by Steve Orr and found it to be very useful. Also we've been getting some ideas of users via the project forums which will certainly be taken into consideration.

Next steps are to define a list of features and prioritize them to decide what has to be in the version 1.0 of the module. Our target is to release this version 1.0 pretty soon, but as you're probably used to in the world of DotNetNuke "It will be released when it's ready."

Re: Starting the Chat module

I am developing a community based website and would be interested in Alpha testing the chat module. Will you be updating this blog when an alpha module is ready?

Re: Starting the Chat module

I will definitely blog about any release of the module. But there will be no seperate release to a group of tester. Afaik, this is never done with DotNetNuke projects, apart from the benefactor-releases off course.

Re: Starting the Chat module

I was talking to one of my customers about the upcoming chat module and they immediately blurted out, "Wouldn't it make sense to be able to click on someone in users online and immediately start a chat session with them?"

Thought I'd pass that little tidbit along as a potential feature.
