DotNetNuke® Project :: Chat Module
This is the homepage for the DotNetNuke Chat Module. The module is "in progress" and while we do have quite a list of features we'd like in it, we're focussing on creating a working basic version first.

Hi, time for another blog on the chat module. As we're getting somewhere near a first public release we decided it's about time to show some of the money. So here are a few screenshots. Hope you like'm.

only readingThis is what the module looks like for a user who's not allowed to chat. He'll be able to read everything other are chatting but can't chat for himself.

Here, the user is allowed to chat. The colorpicker popup is also used for emoticons and font size. And you can see how the markup will be made.

only readingWe extended the standard permissiongrid in module settings so administrators will find the permissions to be set where they'll be looking for them.

Thanks a bunch to Vicenc Masanas and Stefan Cullmann (or at least the one that did this in the UDT module) for their blog and examples.

The final screenshot (below) shows the settings currently implemented for this module. There will be some work done here eventually, but t might give an idea of what's in there now.

So, I hope this gives an idea of where we're at and what is about to come up. Let's here what you think.

Re: Chat Module: Getting Close!

you may want to also include a chat name setting -- selectable, username, display name, or first last name.

Re: Chat Module: Getting Close!

Is it possible to record the chat session using this module and save it in this site's history. I think it is a useful option - like in MS Messenger.

Re: Chat Module: Getting Close!

My wish list: I'd love to see a chat module that would (1) be able to be created on the fly for a particular ad hoc use, and (b) be capable of sending invites to particular users and/or members of a given role, where (c) the invites provide the full particulars of the chat, and a coded link to the ad hoc chat that would be invisible to all others on the portal. Now, THAT would really leverage the power of DotNetNuke!

Re: Chat Module: Getting Close!

Will there be a signal for users on the portal to come to the chatpage? I have a simple chatmodule on one of my portals, but when I am NOT on the chatpage I will never know if someone is waiting for me....

Waiting for the module; thanks for your hard work!

Jos

Re: Chat Module: Getting Close!

Considedring that DNN has a such a grate variety of modules are are all designed for a web sites, i think it would be nice to see if you are a seller of a product and can activate a when you are online to allow your clients to see that the site admin is online so that they can ask questions about the products and services that they provide. Also with the ability to hide if they wish...

Re: Chat Module: Getting Close!

What module is this, meaning where can I find this comment module that I'm typing into. Thanks

By JesusMan on   Saturday, August 18, 2007 7:04 AM

Re: Chat Module: Getting Close!

I have been waiting for a long time for DNN to finally be able to include their own chat module into the core modules of the application. Chat has become such a big part of any CMS application these days that any online portal that does not have a chat room starting up is greatly lacking all tools needed to further their members numbers growing.

Re: Chat Module: Getting Close!

Will this module feature an "online support chat" feature, where an operator waits for a user to connect, to answer questions?
