DotNetNuke® Project :: Documents Module

About the Documents Module
The DotNetNuke "Documents" module presents a list of files within DotNetNuke for download by end users.  Documents can be stored within a DotNetNuke portal, or accessed from an external website or portal.  Access to documents can be secured using the core role-based security from within DotNetNuke, including "secure storage".

Next Version (Version 4.1.0)

The next version of the Documents module will be completed to resolve a few outstanding issues from the 4.0.0 release.  Blow is a listing of items that will be covered in the next release.

DOC-7200: Issue with no category selected defaulting to country list
DOC-7201: Default sort options not properly performing sort
DOC-7202: Display in other languages can result in wrapped headers
DOC-7544: Incorrect spelling in resource file for column heading
DOC-7491: Module doesn't default to full width to fill container
DOC-7490: Alt text on down arrow reads "Move Up"

Note:  The current version of the documents module (and any version later than 4.0.0) requires DotNetNuke 4.5 or later.

Our Vision for the Future
Later versions of the documents module will build on proposed new core features like:

  • Workflow management and versioning.
  • Visual "templates" that render the documents module in a variety of ways.
  • User-defined fields.

Documents Module Blog

It has been a little under a week since I have taken over as the project lead of the Documents module and I thought I would take this time to make a short blog post to update the community regarding the intended path for the module.

As of now version 4.0.0 of the module is the most current release, as we are aware of a few existing re-creatable issues. All of these items have been recorded and updated in Gemini as of last night and these items are the planned scope of the next release as we want to provide a stable, usable module before continuing to add functionality to the module.

At this time I am working to assemble the team, update project resources, and to get everything lined up to release a quick fix release of the module to ensure all current functionality works as expected,. If you would like to see the items planned for the next release you can view the Documents Module Roadmap.

I look forward to helping continue the momentum on this project to provide a high quality module. Look for future blog postings with updates as we progress through the process.

Re: Documents Module Update

At this time there are no entries in the "personal blog" category here on my DotNetNuke.com blog. There will be some soon!

Re: Documents Module Update

What does it mean "Access to documents can be secured using the core role-based security from within DotNetNuke". It appears that only the entire module can be access controlled.

I really need a role-based model where each document can be secured to particular members/roles. Perhaps that could be investigated for version 4.1?

Re: Documents Module Update

Hi Mitchel. I know you are new here so sorry to do this to you now, but I need a little help with the documents module.

What i want to achieve is to let a few users upload new or edited documents from their local folders on their computers on to my portal, but unless they are a part of the adminstrators group they cannot upload any files, unless they are sitting in the DNN file system. if I make them a part of the administrators group then they can edit the whole site and that defeats my purpose. am I looking at the settings incorrectly or is there no solution for this.

regards, Damian
