DotNetNuke® Project :: Documents Module

About the Documents Module
The DotNetNuke "Documents" module presents a list of files within DotNetNuke for download by end users.  Documents can be stored within a DotNetNuke portal, or accessed from an external website or portal.  Access to documents can be secured using the core role-based security from within DotNetNuke, including "secure storage".

Next Version (Version 4.2.0)

The documents module team is working on the vision for the next release of the module as new features and planned enhancements are decided upon this section will be updated with more information.  We will also be announcing new documentation items that will be coming towards the end of 2008.  Stay tuned for updates.

Current Version (Version 4.1.0)

The current version of the Documents module is 4.1.0, released on September 6th 2008.  This release provided a number of fixes to resolve issues surrounding usability and functionality.  The following listing shows all items resolved with the current release.

DOC-7200: Issue with no category selected defaulting to country list
DOC-7201: Default sort options not properly performing sort
DOC-7202: Display in other languages can result in wrapped headers
DOC-7544: Incorrect spelling in resource file for column heading
DOC-7491: Module doesn't default to full width to fill container
DOC-7490: Alt text on down arrow reads "Move Up"

Note:  The current version of the documents module requires DotNetNuke 4.6.2 or later.  You will not be able to install it on older DNN versions.

Our Vision for the Future
Later versions of the documents module will build on proposed new core features like:

  • Workflow management and versioning.
  • Visual "templates" that render the documents module in a variety of ways.
  • User-defined fields.
  • File Icons

If you have a specific functional request for the module please feel free to log it in Gemini, or post to the forums.

It has been a while since I have taken over as team lead for the Documents Module project and I wanted to provide everyone in the community an update on the status of the module.

I have re-formed the team which currently consists of myself and Ted Ogrean.  We are currently working on a number of items that have been identified in the current module as well as working in a few small enhancements to ensure that our next release not only resolves the outstanding issues but provides a bit of new functionality.

At this time we are targeting submission into the DotNetNuke release process by the middle to end of August and a public release will then be complete after the standard release process is completed.  We are taking this bit of additional time to ensure that we fully test the module to identify any outstanding issues and also to ensure that we maintain our current XHTML compliance.

We appreciate your patience as we work through this release to provide a top quality module for the community!
