Introducing the New Team

As version 4.1.0 of the Documents module is progressing through the release tracker I have been working to finalize the team members that will help to make the next versions of the Documents module. As of this time we now have the team in place and roles have been identified. Team resources have been divided into three functional groups; development, testing and documentation, and localization testing. The following will tell a little bit about the team and each of the members responsible.

Development

Team members involved in the development of the module are responsible for the actual coding of module fixes and enhancements. As the project lead I have a primary role over the group as I manage the packaging and submission. To help with development responsibilities Scott Allender has been added to the team, his responsibilties will be to help with all development activities.

Documentation and Testing

The second functional group that was created is the Documentation & Testing group, these individuals are responsible for the internal testing, and documentation of the Documents module. This group was formed to ensure that future releases attain a high level of quality, and to ensure that documentation exists for the module with full usage instructions to document the complex features that exist. This group welcomes Chuck Rizzio and Ismet Dumlupinar, these individuals bring a wealth of experience to the table with regards to documentation and testing.

Localization Testing

The final group that was organized is the Localization Testing group, I added this distinct group as a requirement to ensure that we are not only "able to be localized" but that we have testing that is completed with each release that ensures that localization fully works. Ismet will be leading these efforts, and with each release of the module will ensure that localization works fully. This addition was made to prevent any localization issues from being publicly released that might have an adverse effect on module functionality.

Next Steps

Now that the team has been formed, we are waiting for the current release to pass through the release process. After this has occured we are going to focus on getting the next release of the module and first releases of documentation. Look for updates here on this blog.

Documents Update

I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has submitted their information with interest in joining the Documents module team. At this time I believe I have enough individuals to fill the current needs of the team, stay tuned over the next week to two weeks and the new team members will be publicly announced.

Also, to provide a quick update regarding version 4.1.0 of the Documents module. It has failed the release process for the second time, for this I greatly apologize, I have been working to understand the release process, and all requirements of modules. I have one item that I must fix before I can re-submit the module to the tracker, this will be completed in the next day or two, and hopefully we can get this release out ASAP. I greatly appreciate everyone's patience as I work to get this release out to the community!

DotNetNuke Documents Module 04.01.00

Just a few moments ago I submitted Documents module version 04.01.00 to the DotNetNuke Release Tracker. You can track its progress here. This is the long awaited release that includes fixes for the most pressing technical issues that were identified in Version 04.00.00. Below is a quick listing of each item resolved in this release.

DOC-7710 - Added compatible versions information to prevent installation on versions prior to DNN 4.6.0
DOC-7491 - Added code to ensure that the module will expand to fit the container area
DOC-7490 - Modified Alt text on down arrow to read the proper text of "Move Up"
DOC-7544 - Corrected typo in Owner column header
DOC-7202 - Modified header styling to ensure that foreign language headers are not wrapped to multiple lines
DOC-7200 - Modified module settings control to ensure that if no categories are selected, category list is not displayed

I will be sure to post more updates here as the module progresses through the release process!

Documents Module Project Update

It has been a while since I have taken over as team lead for the Documents Module project and I wanted to provide everyone in the community an update on the status of the module.

I have re-formed the team which currently consists of myself and Ted Ogrean. We are currently working on a number of items that have been identified in the current module as well as working in a few small enhancements to ensure that our next release not only resolves the outstanding issues but provides a bit of new functionality.

At this time we are targeting submission into the DotNetNuke release process by the middle to end of August and a public release will then be complete after the standard release process is completed. We are taking this bit of additional time to ensure that we fully test the module to identify any outstanding issues and also to ensure that we maintain our current XHTML compliance.

We appreciate your patience as we work through this release to provide a top quality module for the community!

Documents Module Update

It has been a little under a week since I have taken over as the project lead of the Documents module and I thought I would take this time to make a short blog post to update the community regarding the intended path for the module.

As of now version 4.0.0 of the module is the most current release, as we are aware of a few existing re-creatable issues. All of these items have been recorded and updated in Gemini as of last night and these items are the planned scope of the next release as we want to provide a stable, usable module before continuing to add functionality to the module.

At this time I am working to assemble the team, update project resources, and to get everything lined up to release a quick fix release of the module to ensure all current functionality works as expected,. If you would like to see the items planned for the next release you can view the Documents Module Roadmap.

I look forward to helping continue the momentum on this project to provide a high quality module. Look for future blog postings with updates as we progress through the process.
