While attention is centered around OpenForce Connections in Las Vegas, I want to provide a breather from news about that important event. I will soon have the pleasure of announcing the first release of the Gallery Module in the .NET 2.0 platform.
While all details about bug fixes and changes will be disclosed once the module passes the Release process, I can tell you that I have been reviewing the issues in our Bug Tracker and Change Management tool and it is evident that the team has done an exhaustive revision to provide improved stability and performance to the module.
Once comments for the release notes for all issues included in the release have been entered, the module will be officially ready for the Release Tracker which signals other DotnetNuke team members to evaluate several areas. When the module passes this evaluations, it is released to the public. Although the process does not have a specific timetable, it is probable that the module will be available before year's end.
If you have any questions or comments, make sure you visit our public forums.

This is a brief note to let everyone know the Beta 2 fo the Gallery module is out. The team is doing an excellent job at killing bugs and taking notes of future areas for enhancements.

As much as everyone, I've been expecting Gallery to go into Beta, if only because it means we are close to a release after all this time. Well, it's time to say we finally have the 4.3.0 Beta package ready to be posted. It will take a little while before it's at www.dotnetnuke.com. So if you are as impatient as our Team, you can cruise to download your copy from: www.dnnmediagallery.com
WARNING: Do not use the Beta...

Today Core Team member Vincenç Masanas gave a presentation about Localization in DotNetNuke. And it reminded me about the use of a Client API feature that has received little publicity.
Dotnetnuke is very lucky to have Jon Henning as part of the Core Team and the Client API is mainly a result of his work on the area. While my Gallery team mate Matthias Schlomann was doing work to make Gallery an XHTML compliant module, he also did extensive work to complete localization. One particular scenario where the usual method of localization requires an extra bit of work is related to string retrieval through Javascript.

After catching up slowly on the usual zillions of things that accumulate when you take a vacation, Gallery came into the picture once again. Previously, we had decided to open up spots for team members, so let me start this post by requesting a warm welcome to:
Andy Burguess
Surjeet Gill
Andrew Ryer
Hans Zassenhaus
Bill Severance
These developers should have by now full access to team resources and, as I write this, they should be thinking about how to fix the last 12 issues that remain...

After recovering from an illness that ended up in a facial paralisis, I've been able to catch up with the project. I've had 4 rough months in every possible sense, luckily and thanks to the work of the team, specially Matthias, Gallery is closer to be released.
A new Private Beta will be packaged after the remaining bugs are cleared from the Backlog. Only two of those are major and there's a showstopper that's being researched by a Core Team member, since it seems to be cause by Friendly URLs and not Gallery itself. It manifests only in DNN 4.5+ versions. This query shows the remaining bugs (15 or so).

Although I am really short on time these days. I am still managing to move push Gallery even though it's as slow as a turtle. Matthias and I have updated most issues and none need to be reviewed by the Team Lead anymore.
Unfortunately testers of the first round were many but results were disappointing. In the next beta we will be using the testcases module that is used by the core, which means that we'll have something that Gallery testers can refer to. It was a bit too vague last time around. Although...

After forming a small team of testers a 4.2.9 version and a subsequent 4.2.10 version were privately released. I want to publicly acknowledge Matthias Schlomann efforts. He's very valuable and helped create Test Cases as well as test functionality itself.
During this weekend I will completely update Gemini to reflect the current status. It's good to see that our Project Tracker is already down to less than a hundred issues and many are enhancements that will not see the light in the next release (4.3.0), which...

I wanted to take a few minutes to post information about what's going on with the Gallery Project.
Beta Testing
The first thing that was done was to prepare a new Beta but we decided to open it up to a small number of people. Depending on the perspective that either went very well or almost failed. Let me explain: sixteen people applied and were accepted into the beta group. A small number of...

While Chris was struggling to push the Gallery Project ahead, release a new version of the Forum Module and manage his own business workload, it was clear he had more than he could chew. A few weeks ago we talked about this and he chose to sponsor me into Project Lead for the project. After going through some hoops to gain appropriate access, today I had my first official Core Team chat and realized I did not have any significant news about this project. Therefore, I decided to take some time to evaluate where...
