Authentication Provider :: Active Directory

 2007.05.14

The Active Directory functionality is currently in redevelopment.  In this phase it is being more cleanly separated from the core framework such that a TRUE Authentication Provider model can be supported.  Mike and Charles are working on this project together with assistance from some other potential Authentication Provider project owners.  When the separation is complete a number of additional new providers should come available shortly after.

The long summary is that my face is extremely red at the moment for letting the community down. As a project lead we see the Release Candidates at the same time as the Benefactors do and it's up to us to do testing on it so that we can hopefully catch any show stopper bugs. With the end of term at the college I work at and the holiday season coming up I failed to test the release against the AD provider and now there's a show stopper bug that will kill a DNN install if your using the AD provider with automatic login (<add name="Authentication" type="DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.HttpModules.AuthenticationModule, DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory"/> is uncommented).

More information can be found in the AD Provider forum (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/89/threadid/192745/scope/posts/Default.aspx).

well Mike - its not all your fault. I checked all the HttpModules that are part of the core solution but I didn't think to check the AD provider.

Re: Active Directory Provider and DNN 4.8.0 Problems.

Would be nice if someone could fix the liveID logoff problem in the release as well, as this has been broken since 4.6 and still is... Even though the fix is described in the support case... http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=6807&PROJID=28
btw, this is the same bug as reported in http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=6128&PROJID=28 as well...

Re: Active Directory Provider and DNN 4.8.0 Problems.

looking forward to the 4.8.0 release though... any ETA?

Re: Active Directory Provider and DNN 4.8.0 Problems.

I don't have an ETA as it's in the Release Tracker. However you can download the version I've submitted to the tracker from http://dnn.gmss.org. However until you have thoroughly tested it yourself and are happy with it I wouldn't put it on a production server.

Mike, What is the status of the provider now that version 4.8.2 is out?

Re: Active Directory Provider and DNN 4.8.0 Problems.

bjornv, the provider is a separate project from the DNN core so it wouldn't matter if the was a DNN 4.8.1, 4.8.2, etc as the problem is in the provider code. The code has been fixed and is in the release tracker but has hit a roadblock. However I do have the version that's in the Release Tracker available on my site (http://dnn.gmss.org).

Re: Active Directory Provider and DNN 4.8.0 Problems.

Yes, kudos to you Mike. It was bad timing for me to start with my little internal project and taking 4.8 and running into the problems, but you resolved them quickly. Thank you for taking over this project and your support. It is much appreciated.

Re: Active Directory Provider and DNN 4.8.0 Problems.

Will there be a 4.8.1 with this one fixed soon? This is a total showstopper for a project atm.

Re: Active Directory Provider and DNN 4.8.0 Problems.

I have to say that you do an excellent job of support compared to some of the other DNN projects. Good on ya for standing up and taking the arrows.

Re: Active Directory Provider and DNN 4.8.0 Problems.

This kills my install next week but thanks for being on top of this. Is the community planning on 2008 and 3.5 anytime soon? Is this on a roadmap of anykind?

Regards, Bryan

Re: Active Directory Provider and DNN 4.8.0 Problems.

Jon, the 01.00.03 version is included in the 4.8.2 install. I also sent a nudge earlier this afternoon to see if it can't be pushed through the last few steps in the release tracker.
