DotNetNuke® Project :: FCKeditor Provider

As today, the on-line editor has become one of the most important tools when talking about on-line content editing. This makes the on-line editor one of the most important tools included on the DotNetNuke® framework.

FCKeditor™ is one of the best free on-line rich text editor existent on the Internet and its great features are well known by the internet comunity.

The provider started as a personal project by Mauricio Marquez (dnn.tiendaboliviana.com), and then it gained a lot of popularity. Now, in an effort to guaranty its freedom and a better integration with the core framework, it has become a real DotNetNuke® Project.

The provider includes the following features at the moment:

  • Make most FCKeditor features available to users
  • It has a custom configuration page included. (You can make each custom option available as per instance, per module and per portal.
  • Tries to include some features not available inside DNN (This will change soon) like a root folder per instance, role based toolbars, etc
  • Much more…

The following tasks will be accomplished by this team

  • Create a better integration between DNN and FCKeditor (This one will need real help from other project members)
  • Make the most features of this on-line editor available to final users and content administrators.

I still remember those days when I was a developer who liked to build everything by myself. Yeah, I developed a good set of cool stuff, but then I discovered many similar products existent on the field, and that many of them were developed by programming teams. Of course, those teams grew faster than me with those products and that makes sense because two or more heads think better that just one no matter how good you are.

For me, the DotNetNuke© community has become my development team. Here, I can share my ideas, obtain some ideas, answers to some problems and to test my skills and learn more at the same time by giving support wherever I can. I learned my lesson about not trying to reinvent the wheel (helping the inventor and giving ideas could make a better wheel).

I really like the idea to give some support and ideas to the DNN project because the final product will be used by “me” to help “me” at the same time it is used by “you” to help “you”. So, it is great to know that most people here are thinking this product is being used by “us” to help “us”, and that we take this community as a big team built from many smaller teams.

I will take this opportunity to thank all this community for being so great. And of course, to the core team to keep this running and well arranged.

Re: Are you inside the team?

Didn't see any comments to this post, as it seems to be with many blogs on DNN site, but I’ve got a feeling that’s all going to start to change.

Being a legacy ASP programmer, and migrating my skills to ASP.NET, I have made a decision to go with something more core/know/supported/flexible and business minded to support my transition. I have found all that I require (not have to have) is within reach with DNN. -And mostly for the reasons you’ve mentioned.

DotNetNuke© is one of the most balanced open source projects I’ve seen yet. I have not seen business/commercial third party involvement this effective in an open source web application that is this unique and functional to all entities/users/members/parties.

Bottom line is…

Expect my involvement and contribution in any way that I can, as I KNOW that I and my customers will benefit from the usage and participation of DNN.
