DotNetNuke® Project :: FCKeditor Provider

As today, the on-line editor has become one of the most important tools when talking about on-line content editing. This makes the on-line editor one of the most important tools included on the DotNetNuke® framework.

FCKeditor™ is one of the best free on-line rich text editor existent on the Internet and its great features are well known by the internet comunity.

The provider started as a personal project by Mauricio Marquez (dnn.tiendaboliviana.com), and then it gained a lot of popularity. Now, in an effort to guaranty its freedom and a better integration with the core framework, it has become a real DotNetNuke® Project.

The provider includes the following features at the moment:

  • Make most FCKeditor features available to users
  • It has a custom configuration page included. (You can make each custom option available as per instance, per module and per portal.
  • Tries to include some features not available inside DNN (This will change soon) like a root folder per instance, role based toolbars, etc
  • Much more…

The following tasks will be accomplished by this team

  • Create a better integration between DNN and FCKeditor (This one will need real help from other project members)
  • Make the most features of this on-line editor available to final users and content administrators.

Sorry for being so quiet lately, but now I can break the silence to give you details about what are coming soon.

There are no real changes other than moving the project to use all DNN branding

  • Namespace has changed to be under DotNetNuke structure
  • Some folder names has been changed removing the DS prefix
  • Provider folder name has been changed
  • Provider identifier inside web.config has been changed

So the question could be: Can the new provider be installed along with the old one?

The answer is: Yes, the new provider will start as version 01.00.00 using a new name, but it will be the same at the end.

Gallery templates: A few TAGs have been renamed (DS chars removed). You will be able to include your custom gallery templates too after replacing a few TAGs.

It addresses a few pending bugs, and now it will start to use the standard way to make suggestions and to report bugs (Gemini)

Next days I will be recruiting more people inside the team.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. The new release will be available soon.

Re: FCKEditor provider news

You are brilliant Mauricio! It would be great to read more from you. Please consider posting more information more often.

I would be interested in helping you. What volunteer efforts are needed? I am ready and willing.

Re: FCKEditor provider news

The biggest headache I face in using DotNetNuke Editors is when two users who have read/write access to a Text/HTML module tries to edit the module at the same time. This leads to one user overwriting the other.
I was thinking about how to resolve this issue. When one user is in edit mode, the module should be locked out. The problem is, if it is locked out, then what happens if the user closes the browser without saving or cancelling. Then, nobody can edit the module.
One idea I had was to to have a javascript timer call a function on the server using the new features of ASP.NET 2.0. If the first user closes the browser without saving, then a timeout will occur, then, the server will set the module back to read/write status.
Is there any way of implementing this at all? Any flaws in my idea?
Thanks for any help.
