DotNetNuke® Project :: Firebird® Provider

DotNetNuke can currently be run on at least two database platforms - Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle. In the 2x days of DotNetNuke, it was also possible to run DotNetNuke using Microsoft Access which was more easier/familiar to the some of the community than SQL Server or Oracle.

The Firebird® Data Provider is a new sub project under the core which will allow DotNetNuke to run using a Firebird Database.  Firebird® is a relational database which runs on Linux, Windows and other flavors of the Unix Platform. It is ANSI SQL compliant and has a very small footprint in comparision to MS SQL Server or Oracle. It can also be run in an embedded mode requiring little or no interaction from the end user.
The goal of the Firebird Data Provider is to offer yet another alternative for DotNetNuke users who do not wish to use SQL Server or Oracle.

For those interested, you can get some more information on Firebird® from here.

This project was started by various volunteers with the desire of offering another viable alternative for DotNetNuke and thereby increase the overall usage of DotNetNuke. A large portion of the provider was contributed by Sanjay Mehrotra who also is the author of the Oracle Data Provider.

Its now been a couple of weeks since version 4.4.1 of the feedback module has been released and with the exception of some bugs, I would say that overall, the release process went fine (unless others have some input on this).
I will start working on 4.4.2 very shortly here (hopefully start getting the feature set ready by mid week ) and then start figuring out what needs to be done in 4.4.2. I know I've received some requests from the core which include better administrative functionality (ie allowing others besides the site admin to moderate feedback posts) which will get added to 4.4.2.
This past week (March 19th) was also the birth of my baby boy :). I am now a proud dad and it's an exciting period for me personally. My wife and I have been eagerly waiting for this day and it is NOT easy to say the least. I'm still trying to figure out things like how to be able to function (workwise) after staying up all night holding your crying 1 week old baby...

I've also received some feedback on the open tickets on gemini for the feedback module and will be addressing those very shortly (hopefully by end of this week). I believe most of the open items are for issues from the previous 3x version of the feedback module which should no longer be valid in 4.4.1 but I will go over each item and see whether it is a valid issue or not.

Congrats Sanjay. I know what it is like to be a proud father myself. Thank you for including captcha. It was certainly needed. I was wondering if there is any way captcha can be role based?

Re: Feedback Module et al

Have you had any opportunity to implement the ability to add more fields to the form, like phone, etc.?? Really would save the trouble of implementing 3rd-party forms for such basic things as capturing phone number, etc. Thank you, Tom

Re: Feedback Module et al

This may not be the proper place but why is the Feedback module not included in the install files of DNN4.4.1 downloaded from www.dotnetnuke.com?

Feedback Module suggestions

Hi Sanjay,

First of all I would like to thank for the wonderful module... I have some suggestion...

1. It would be better if you are adding the feature that, one user can send a feedback only once, so that it can also be used as examination module.

2. If the user is logged in his email id would be shown Email-Id of feedback setting, option can be added to set hide the email-id box while sending the feedback, so as to avoid the user enter some invalid mail id to send a feedback.

Any way great work so far....
