DotNetNuke® Project :: Installer Utility

Welcome to the DotNetNuke Installer project

installer_start.jpgWe have heard it again and again. DotNetNuke really needs an installer to help beginners with their first experience with DotNetNuke. But on the other hand the Installer should also be helping the more experienced users to quickly setup a new website with DotNetNuke.
The DotNetNuke Installer should take care of everything (ok, almost everything ...)

What is the DotNetNuke Installer?
The DotNetNuke Installer will take care of installing or upgrading DotNetNuke. It will guide the user through a series of pages and at the end will make all the settings based on what the user entered on the pages. Right now, the current version provides the following:

  • the user can select what items he wants to install (Core files, source, documentation, one (or more) module(s))
  • copy the files to the specified directory or to a remote FTP server
  • create the virtual directory in IIS (sorry, no support for root websites just yet)
  • create (or reuse an existing) database
  • basic command-line support


Issues and Bugs
Please use the DotNetNuke Installer issue tracker to report bugs and issues found in the installer, this way we are able to schedule, solve, track, and test the issues raised. Bug reports reported in a forum tends to be forgotten when they are no longer at the top of the list.

If you are not sure if something is a feature or an issue, feel free to describe your findings in the special forums below so others are able to provide their views and opinions.

Why feedback?
We need your feature ideas and experience with the installer to help us make it even better, and positive feedback helps us confirm the design choices we make.

Blog Module: It's Alive!

Hello Folks!

Spring is here, and the Blog Module is out of Hybernation. It's alive and well.

As the project description states, Blog applications are gaining more popularity and have become the medium of choice for the dissemintation and sharing of information. Blogs and Blog services are popping up everywhere. 

That said, here at DotNetNuke, we have realized that the Blog Module needed a *bump* in order to get the innovative and creative juices flowing once again.

The (very) short term plan is to get a release out as soon possible. This release will contain the several bug fixes that have been reported by the community.

The long term plan (although we are still discussing the full extent of it) is to implement a slew of Social Networking and Web 2.0 features. I will post another blog entry soon to discuss what, how, and when to expect next.

I am super excited about this project and hope that you are too.
I hope you will Digg this post; oh wait, you cannot! - At least not yet!

Glad to see someone thinking about this. The web 2.0 features sound great, but first fix trackback functionality so it communicates with other blog platforms and add some ping functionality to help with SE placement. So get the basics of a blog in place and then add new features, but this is just my opinion.

Bruce, agreed!
As I said, the first thing is to get a stabilization release out. Then Web 2.0 comes into play.

bangbangt-shirts, Rodney is using this same Blog Module and is using the widget from http://www.addthis.com/.

I too had done something similar, but instead of going the "Add this" route, I wrote my own. You can take a look here: http://www.cto20.com/Default.aspx?tabid=669

I will be integrating my widget in the Blog as well.

Rask, I believe OpenId is in the works, and probably CardSpace as well. Take a look at Joe Brinkman's blog for more information on this. However, this is something that will go in the Core and not this module.

When I try this on my blog, I just end up with visible 'br' html tags.
