Great idea! I will need this as well, hosting 1 DNN codebase, howeverf 6 different sites with different settings to send from.

Please add this feature! This is a big issue for those hosting multiple portals.

I've submitted the code into the project tracker that adds this feature. Please vote for it! -- DNNP-9510

Presently, if you have dnn installed on a shared web host, you can only send emails out that match the host smtp settings. Meaning, if you have multiple domains, you can only send mail out from one of those domains. It is not professional to send out email from domain1.com with an address from domain2.com, especially if they are completely separate entities that have nothing to do with each other. So, yes, at least an option to set up a per portal smtp setting really is needed, most likely by a large user base.

I agree that the portals should be able to specify that the emails as well. Also, when setting the email, there should be text that strongly recommends that people use an @TheirDomain.com email address. I've seen many times when people set their site to send out emails from their Yahoo or MSN account and as a result, they end up getting blacklisted.

I agree that EACH Portal should have it's own SMTP Config. After all when one host many different Domans, each one may have it's own Email Facility. Of course if the config is blank then the MAIN or DEFAULT Portal Config should be used.

Host SMTP could be the default if portal SMTP is not defined

I don't disagree with this request however the portal level SMTP should be optional. I work for a company that hosts DNN websites and we also host the SMTP server. I do not want to be forced to setup the same SMTP settings for each and every portal we create. Nor do I want to give out our server's SMTP settings to customers so they can configure the settings.

Perhaps the ability to also define at the Host level and any portal that doesn't have it's own settings uses the Host settings.
