A question arose today about .Net Framework - 3.5 and 3.5 Client, as well as 4.0 and 4.0 Client.  In Visual Studio 2010 you are able to select your Framework target.  This is not new, but which one to select! So what is the difference between the Framework and the Framework Client?

The differences are the components that are installed. The "Client" profiles are intended to be slimmed down releases that include only what is needed by client/desktop applications. For example, it doesn't include the ASP.NET...

Visual Studio, by default, displays a splash screen on start-up.  I have noticed through the versions this is getting longer and longer.  The splash screen just displays the branding information of Visual Studio and also includes information (if supplied) for all packages installed.  This information can take sometime to display and I and my fellow developers do not want to see this every time Visual Studio is started.  It is basically preferred instead to get right to the job at hand and start coding.

One of my main tasks working at the United Nation and the European Commission Joint Research Centre was to get all developers on the same page with developing in DotNetNuke.  This is a difficult task in itself as everybody has their own flavour.  So the best way to tackle this was to introduce the DotNetNuke templates.  I used the ones from Chris Hammond on CodePlex both C# and VB to do this.  They ran straight out of the box and with...

… The Dashboard was introduced to DotNetNuke sometime ago.  It details information about the Web Server, Database Server, Host, Portals, Modules and Skins.  It can also be extended.  Well I always thought that this was useful information but when would I need to refer to it.

A few weeks ago I was having some issues with my hosting provider.  My DNN solutions had been migrated to another platform.  This all being said, :

I was not notified My Email was not working as it did before My...

OpenForce Europe closed its doors on Tuesday evening and I must say it was a great event even though CH drank all the JD in this small country!  Meeting new faces is always nice.  It is always great to hear the passion for DotNetNuke rather than read it.

After some jigging and poking the Dutch DotNetNuke User Group will have their own booth at the OpenForce Europe 2008 event in the Netherlands (www.sdc.nl).

The user group meeting in Waddinxveen (The Netherlands) was a great success. We had over 35 people attend and our user group sponsor MVIC was a great host. We gave some nice freebies away, SDN T-shirts, Microsoft Training Vouchers. The Prize draw was fun too, handing out a full license of Vista Ultimate, Three {Hero} packages and a year’s subscription to TechNet.

Now on to the important stuff.

A presentation announcing DotNetNuke "Cambrian" was given by Erik van Ballegoij along with DotNetNuke and Visual Studio 2008. Stefan Kamphuis spoke about the advantages of signing up with SDN and the benefits of visiting OpenForce’08 Europe.

The morning sessions went off with a flying start.  Even though OpenForce registrations weren't has high as I was expecting the session turn out has been very good.  I should try to find out how many of the attendees are actual OpenForce attendees because the way it looks, I'm guessing, that we have quite a few SDN members attending.  Not that I'm complaining, not in the slightest, this in fact is really great.

Well it is now after lunch and we have just heard Shaun's Keynote.  Wow.  Even as a core team member it was very empowering to hear.

It just doesn't cease to amaze me how this is going!  Since last year hooking up with the Software Developers Network in the Netherlands, the DotNetNuke track has grown from strength to strength.  Today Friday 23rd March 2007 was another great event and it was only €25- for non members, and this included and decent lunch and coffee breaks.  For this event I invited Salar Golestanian from the core to speak.  He ran 2 sessions; the first was “The Good the Bad and the Ugly” and the second was “Concept 2 Print in...

I have returned from the MVP Summit which I enjoyed to no end.  It was great to hook up with the DotNetNuke Corporation and even more fun to spend my last afternoon discussing my ideas about the User Group program.  I will not be letting the cat out of the bag in this blog but, I can say there are some exciting times ahead.  It was really great that Shaun, Scott, Joe and Nik could see my enthusiasm about running this as well as my love to evangelise DotNetNuke.

At the MVP Summit I managed to hook up with...

Silly as it may sound, but this is probably one of the only things that I used to modify in core from the early days.  This is because my earlier customers who have grown with the DotNetNuke™ system just expected to have this field.  So now I actually got around to introducing it to the framework, one less thing for me to worry about now.

Why is this so important?  Well, when logged in as Admin or Host or logged in with Administration rights to this module, the email address of "portal Admin" was used when...

The event went off with flying colours.  The booth was a lot nicer than the one I had last year and the atmosphere was electric.

We drummed up a large audience for the Lunch Time session.  This in return gave us a lot of visitors to our booth.

The meeting went on for some 3 hours with 3/4's of an hour conference call with Shaun in Canada.  It was 07:30 am PST, 16:30 CET and boy he was already alive and alert.  Around 30 people listening intently to what he had to say.

The dry run presentation went really well, some good feedback.  I can wait until MS Dev Days.  I have managed to secure a plasma screen at the event so I can run demo's for anyone interested.  I also believe I will be doing some breakout sessions with the major Dutch ISP's.

I am currently preparing for the next Dutch DotNetNuke user group meeting.  It is going to be a good event and a good turn out of 30+ DNN'ers.

We are meeting at the Microsoft training centre in Barneveld.  Shaun, [aka sbwalker] has said that he is willing to hold a conference call with the group.

The meeting also gives us an oppoturnity to do a dry run of the DotNetNuke Module Development prestentation which two members of the group (Stefan Kamphuis...

These past few weeks I have been working on the Flash and Windows Media integration.  The integration was simple but it does not handle any of the medial formats parameters at present.

Various formats are supported by the windows media player and so good analysis needs to be done on how best  to support this interaction.
