53 Days Left to go!

DNNWorldThere are 53 days left to go for DNN's Event of the Year.

What is DNNWorld 2012 going to be about?

Acquisition to increase synergy between DotNetNuke Platform and Third Party Software Extensions for the benefit of end users;

Jay Brice Snow, Founder & CEO of Snowcovered to join DotNetNuke Corp's business advisory board

It is trite to say this, but it is true that building a company is all about ‘people’.  In another sense, it is also true that building a company is also about the ‘conversations’ those people have.  In the last nine months, we have been focused on putting a strong business team in place for DotNetNuke Corp.  We are also supported by an extremely talented and accomplished board:  Larry Augustin, Tim Guleri and Vivek Mehra are all accomplished business operators and investors in their own right.

Microsoft Corporation takes its time to embrace a new thing but once they do, they make sure they are super successful at it. They weren’t the first in operating systems or office applications or business applications or browsers or in any number of things.  But once they entered each of these fields, they have proven to be super successful in each of them.  The company and leadership have exhibited a remarkable ability in that, many times, they come to a conclusion or decision but don’t think twice about changing that decision either when the market proves them wrong OR when the market dynamics change.

In my session at OpenForce Connections ‘09, I said that one of the things we have to get back in DotNetNuke, the product, is the ‘cool factor’.  ‘Cool’ to me is something that enthralls you; something that is great to look at; something that captivates you.  For a software product it is defined by how the user interface looks, how easy the software is to use, and how enjoyable the process of using the software is.  How do you ‘feel’ when you are in the midst of using the product and how do you feel upon finishing your specific task and accomplishing your purpose with the product?

Over the last 48 hours, I have been both watching and receiving responses related to our recent announcement.  Andreas Di Palma has also reached out to the existing Xepient user base and received their initial reactions and responses as well (see Andreas' post).  Overall, the responses to the blog and to our communication to the existing Xepient customer base have been positive with some expressing their concerns at the move.  The discussions in our Forums, though,

DotNetNuke responds to market demand for phone support and extended support hours with the launch of DotNetNuke Elite and DotNetNuke Elite Premier.

 First of all, an apology is in order.  My last blog was in December 2009, quite a while ago.  I guess I am not really a natural blogger like some others for whom blogging seems a natural extension of themselves.  I promise to try harder …

Quite a few things have happened in the company since my last blog.  We finished 2009 very strong with nearly 500 customers and over 800 Elite and Professional Edition product subscriptions.  We signed in excess of 65 Gold, Certified and Registered Partners, many of whom have begun to resell the commercial editions of DotNetNuke.  We had 3 major product releases and 7 maintenance releases (a total of 10 product releases) -- a few more than we had in 2008.  We acquired Snowcovered and now have an AppStore that does nearly 4,000 ‘add-on transactions’ a month.  We also closed a strategic OEM partnership with Telerik.

By every count, 2009 was both a super- eventful and super-successful year for DotNetNuke Corp...
