Information and progress on the Wiki Module.
By Chris Hammond on 11/25/2009

It's been far too long (yet again) for a Wiki release but the day has finally come! You can now download the 04.02.00 version of the Wiki module. Here's a very brief summary of what was changed in 04.02.00.

"This release includes fixes to the Save button, cleaned up HTML code for XHTML Compliance, cleaned up isearchable code, removal of the extra BR tags inserted after LI tags, as well as an issue regarding the SEO aspects of a Wiki topic not being reused on edit.

Enhancements to the module include the extraction of the EDIT controls from the  same display as the view controls for future flexibility in modifications to the source code. A module.css file has also been added to control the width of the "index", future CSS enhancements will be added in the next few releases."

One other item of note, this version is compiled against DNN 04.09.04, which means it will run on DNN 04.09.04 or greater. If you need to run it on an older version of the platform you can download the source code and compile it yourself. Unfortunately we can't recommend running older versions of the platform.

I've got big plans for the next release of the module, and a goal of having it out in the first quarter of 2010. Stay tuned to my blog here on DotNetNuke.com as I update the Wiki features over the next few months. I'm also working on bringing a new team member on board to help out with the project, I'll make that announcement when everything is completed with the process.

Now, get Wiki'ing!

So it has been a while since I've done a blog post talking about the Wiki module, it is definitely time!

The Wiki project is still rolling along, at this point it is pretty much just myself, no volunteers lately to work on the project, which is fine with me for now, it's good to have the development release as I seem to be doing a lot of sales and DNN Training work at the office these days, not getting to do much development.

So it's been a while since I've had an update on the Wiki module, once again too long, I apologize for that, it has been a very busy year in the DNN world, and I've been all over the world since the last Wiki release happened back in July.

So here's the current status, up until tonight nothing had changed in the Wiki project since July. Tonight however I made some progress on getting a few bugs worked out, and finding a few more bugs as well. The Wiki team is going to be recruiting again, I am in need a couple of people. Here are the requirements I am looking to meet, the more of these you meet the better, but you don't have to meet all four (read more)

The newest version of the DotNetNuke Wiki Module project has been released to the public today, it is available from the downloads page here on DotNetNuke.com. You can see the release notes here in the thread in the Wiki Forum

This version of the Wiki module has quite a few bug fixes from the 04.00.01 release from 2007. It also has some new functionality such as

  • The ability to add a page without having to "edit" another page
  • IPortable functionality (thanks to Stefan Cullmann)
  • SEO Support for Wiki Pages (define page title, keywords, descriptions)

Yet another Wiki update! The ever wonderful Sebastian failed the Wiki release on Sunday evening (just joshing you Sebastian, sorta ), last night I made a few changes per his recommendations, and then I finished things up this evening.

I've tested and repackaged the 04.01.00 release and put it into the release tracker. You can track the progress via this page here on DotNetNuke.com.

It has been a bit since I posted a Wiki status update so here goes a quick one for this Friday evening. There is one last issue to be tracked down in the WIki before we can recompile/package and submit it to the release tracker. I hope to track this down later tonight or on Saturday and have it submitted back into the tracker, hopefully for an accelerated trip through the process. I'll post another update when it is packaged and submitted. Hope everyone has a great weekend, I'll be working on the Wiki and hopefully working on the two project cars

Friday night update: This Wiki release, 04.01.00 will be compiled to run against DotNetNuke 4.8.3, due to all of the security fixes in the release, and some changes that will make the Wiki content more secure. If you absolutely can't upgrade, once the release happens

317 days ago I submitted the 04.00.01 release of the Wiki module into the DNN Project Release process. I am ashamed af that fact. It has been way too long between release submissions.

However, I am proud to say that the next version of the DotNetNuke Wiki Module 04.01.00 has been submitted to the release tracker! There's always a chance it will get kicked out of the tracker for a problem, but those problems should be minimal. I would hope to see the module officially released sometime in the next month.

When the release makes it through the process I will be sure to highlight some of the changes to the changes to the module. For now though you can check out the project in Gemini to see some of the bug fixes and new features.

I know there are some folks out there looking for a Wiki update! Here it is, though it's not likely what you want to read :) The Wiki module hasn't made much progress over the past few weeks. I did implement some code changes from Stefan Cullman, but haven't had a chance to finish up the testing on these changes and get a release together. My hope is to be able to get some of that done next week and try to get the module into the release cycle. This weekend I'm off to start my racing season in Adel Georgia, a long drive for what will amount to probably 8 minutes of racing, but I'm excited to get the car out and see how I can do.

Next week I'll be back to work on the Wiki.

I know a lot of you are wondering, what happened to all the progress that was being made on the Wiki module in the month of December? Well January came and I had a few other projects that I had to finish up. Now that those are complete I'm back onto the Wiki module. My goal is to have the final enhancements for this release into the code and ready for some testing by the end of the week. After that I'll have a bit of a beta period to make sure we have the bugs worked out and then will move the module into the release process. The current goal is to have the module started in the release process by 2/15.

More updates later in the week!

A quick update before I turn it in for the evening (really it is morning already). I've spent quite a bit of time on the Wiki module today, testing and debugging a few things.

The main focus today has been tweaking the ability to define some items to better improve SEO for the Wiki Pages. With the new functionality you can addTitle, Description, and Keywords to each Wiki topic, allowing you to define a different Title than than "Name" of the Wiki item. This title gets used in the Browser Title, as well...

I spent a few hours last night (while sitting in a Globalization Econ class) working on the Wiki module. I've got some of the bugs I added in last week squashed though I need to do a bit more testing. My testing with 4.6.2 was resulting in a few problems that weren't apparently in 4.5.*.

I'll post another blog next week with another update, unless I get it finished up this weekend.

GO RED SOX!

Quick Wiki Update for October 18th, 2007!

What's the deal? Busy busy busy month, I won't say more than that (well that and check out my new ride! -> www.corvettez06.org)

Alright, back to the Wiki:

I've been working on new features for the Wiki. Tonight I setup the database structure to allow you to define a Page Title, Meta-Description and Meta-Keywords per Wiki item, this should help greatly for SEO.

I'm still working on the new Add A Page...

I realize there is a large demand for the Wiki module, and I'm doing my best trying to get this next release to happen soon. It's been a strange year for me, I didn't race as much as I have in past years, mostly because I've been far busier than ever before. Work is booming and keeping me busy, which unfortunately makes it hard to get a lot done with the Wiki.

Racing season is nearly over (2 more local events this year), I'm hoping to revamp the Wiki team this winter and have a good push for new/much needed features and functionality for 2008. Though, before January comes I hope to have a release or two out the door as well.

I'm proud to finally announce that the DotNetNuke Wiki Project has officially released the first "production" version of the Wiki module. This version is labeled 04.00.01 and can be downloaded from the Project downloads page. You can find out more information for the Wiki module on the Project Page, and some basic instructions,...

Coming soon! The Wiki has reached Dogfooding! We're getting close to release, I'm putting some docs together this weekend. I'll give you a heads up when it's released.

One FYI though, the Wiki module will be version 04.00.01, for any of you who know core modules, that does mean it is compiled to run on the .Net 2.0 framework, and it actually will only run on 4.4.1 or newer, unless you take the source code and recompile it yourself to run on earlier versions of DNN 4.*

Just a heads up as I'm sure...

Happy Patriots day (for the New Englanders who know what I'm talking about)

A quick Wiki Module Update, brought to you by the letter P.

The Wiki module has moved a few steps closer to release in the release process. I hope to give you more info again soon!  If you want to read more about the release process check out Steve's blog post.

Earlier today I posted a blog noting that the 04.00.00 release of the DotNetNuke Wiki module had been kicked out of the release process due to an error.

I found the error, and have corrected it, repackaged the module as the 04.00.01 version and put that version into the release cycle. I'll post more when I see how far through the cycle this release makes it, I'm hoping it'll go all the way through this time.

The issue was related to the comments section of the Wiki. I also found a few places in...

Well, unfortunately last weekend I was informed the Wiki module has been dropped out of the release process for a recreatable error in the module that i hadn't seen before.

I hope to get the error corrected today and try to get a new package together as well so that I can resubmit it for the release process before I leave town tomorrow. I'm headed to Boston tomorrow, going to opening day at Fenway on Tuesday. Go Red Sox!

I'll post again later if I get the release submitted again.

By Chris Hammond on 3/1/2007

Well, here's another quick update! Last night I said within 24 hours I wanted to have the Wiki Module submitted to the DNN Release Process.

I got things cleaned up this evening, packaged, and it has been submitted to the QA team for inclusion in the release process. There are a few steps to the process, so I can't really tell you when it will be publicly released, but it's definitely one step closer! I'll post more updates as I know and can.

Quick update before I fall asleep at my desk.

What's up with the Wiki module? Well here's a quick update. Is spent a few hours this evening doing some testing, fixes, and more testing. I've found a few minor things causing a slight delay, though I hope to have these issues cleaned up tomorrow and have the module packaged for the release process by this time tomorrow night.

I know everyone is waiting on it, and I apprecaite everyone being patient! We're working to try to make sure this release is stable, and able to make it through the release process in one take, without having to come back to us for changes.

Just a quick update for the status of the Wiki project. Josh has began working on the upgrade scripts for the release from the KTomics release. I'm currently going through the release process documentation to figure out exactly what we need to have together for our first official release through the DotNetNuke release process.

More coming later this week as I figure out what I'll need to get together for the process, we already have the install and source packages for the process.

The Wiki project has stalled for a few days due to Mother Nature. I've got two homes at the moment, while we move, and neither of them have power. We got hit by an ice storm this weekend, and Saturday evening we had some trees fall on our house. We spent Sunday trying to move to our new place, which we hadn't planned on moving till until late this month. Both places are currently still without power, so while we get moved and wait for the power to come back up the Wiki project is going to take a little bit of...

A quick update on the status of the Wiki. In my last blog post I noted that I had a hell of a time getting VS2005 and Vista to play nicely, in order to get the DNN 4.4 solution setup and running. With the help of a few kind folks I was pointed to the VS2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista (still in beta),...

A quick update on the status of the Wiki module project.
By Chris Hammond on 11/16/2006
Well, it's been around a month or so since we announced the changes in the Wiki Project, what's happened in that last month? Quite a bit. Josh is now official in his role within the DotNetNuke project, and we've gotten a place to upload the source code of the project so that we can get it into the DotNetNuke system and process.

I hope to have all of the code setup in our system before the end of the weekend so that...

The DNN 4 issues have been commented on many times but here goes one more try ;)

To get the Wiki Module to work with DNN4  Copy your Default.aspx file and rename the copy to desktopdefault.aspx for a quick fix.

The next version of the Wiki Module has the fix for this included, but until that is released the above will work.

By Chris Hammond on 3/27/2006
The initial beta release of the DNN Wiki module is now available for download. This first release is a full-function Wiki module that allows you to easily setup a simple Wiki for use within your DotNetNuke portal. The project currently consists of a conversion and upgrade of the DotNetWiki Module based on DNN 2.* from Jonathan de Halleux. The upgrade process included integration with the current membership and role models supported by DNN 3.*, Module Exception handling, and various other code compilations to...

This is not an end all be all solution for the Wiki documentation, it is only for assistance to users who want to work with the Wiki while we try to get some good solid documentation to gether. There are features that aren't working, and bugs already entered into Gemini, hope to get cranking on these soon! I'll blog this as well.
