My personal blog on DotNetNuke.
By Mauricio Márquez on 8/15/2008

I saw a lot of posts asking about how to open a link in a new window from the menu URL. I posted a simple solution in the old days of the asp.net forums for dotnetnuke and today I decided to blog about it becuase I think it could be useful

It has been a long time since my last blog, so I want to apologize for that because many people wanted to know what happened with the FCKeditor provider Project, so here it is the status

Many developers out there use a well known technique for dynamically loading an .ascx into another custom .ascx. That technique is applied in the code behind and there are many variants of that code created by many developers out there. Problems? most of times?

I just returned from a long vacation. I enjoyed the trip with my family and my 1 year old doughter. I want to say sorry for being out so long to everybody waiting news about the FCKeditor.

Now, I will take some time to review the pending tasks for the provider and to re-joing my own team (I abandoned Dan for a long time).

I want to let you all know that now I am in charge to review the editor functionality for the DotNetNuke Framework and this could really improve the way all editor providers work...

After a great job done by the core team and specially our lifesaver called Mrswoop, the new release is ready to download (and... you knew that the editor used to write today's blog was fckeditor?)

Hi everyone. I want to apologize because it was a long time without any news about the provider and myself. The truth is that sometimes real life could take more time  than expected (My new beautiful daughter).

The new version (01.00.07) of the provider is ready and all it needs is to be published, but it could take some time because the core team has a new process to ensure real quality on each DNN part involved. Hope to have it published this week.

The 01.00.07 version fixes a lot of bugs and...

The new version of FCKeditor provider is out (01.00.06)

The modifications were:

The custom options page was moved to a new window to improve load time when the user is allowed to view the custom options, and to solve the profile module problem. The profile module problem (missing tabmoduleid) was solved by using the tabmoduleid from the "user accounts" module The image gallery was fixed and validate against the "/" problem under DNN 3.3.x and 4.3.x Version 2.3.1 of FCKeditor was included...

There are some aspects of HTML coding that developers not always take care when creating a module. The experience then gives the last details.

The following are common issues made by developers, skinners, etc (yes...me included)

Let me try to explain by giving a few samples

Thanks for your patience. Now you can download the new provider from the project page.

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/DotNetNukeProjects/ProviderFCKeditor0153/Downloads/tabid/936/Default.aspx

Please take note that this is not an upgrade. This is a new provider and could be installed without touching the old version from dnn.tiendaboliviana.com. It uses a new folder name and a new provider name entry.

Well,...

Sorry for being so quiet lately, but now I can break the silence to give you details about what are coming soon.

There are no real changes other than moving the project to use all DNN branding

Namespace has changed to be under DotNetNuke structure Some folder names has been changed removing the DS prefix Provider folder name has been changed Provider identifier inside web.config has been changed So the question could be: Can the new provider be installed along with the old one?

The...

Well, many people out there were surprised with this new sub-project, so we are going to inject this slowly to see how deeper we can go.

At this moment, the free FCKEditor provider from dnn.tiendaboliviana.com makes most of the FCKEditor features available to DNN without touching the original FCKEditor...

I still remember those days when I was a developer who liked to build everything by myself. Yeah, I developed a good set of cool stuff, but then I discovered many similar products existent on the field, and that many of them were developed by programming teams. Of course, those teams grew faster than me with those products and that makes sense because two or more heads think better that just one no matter how good you are.

For me, the DotNetNuke© community has become my development team. Here, I can share my ideas, obtain some ideas, answers to some problems and to test my skills and learn more at the same time by giving support wherever I can. I learned my lesson about not trying to reinvent the wheel (helping the inventor and giving ideas could make a better wheel).
