DNN 4.5+ sees a major change in module editing tools with the FCK rich text editor replacing the FTB rich text editor. This editor is used universal across all portals in a DNN installation in modules such as Text/HTML and Announcements, as well admin tools such as Newsletters.
As I have previously blogged, the FCK editor offers many new features and improvements such as improved image management, Flash insertion, templates, full screen editing plus a range of admin only settings. The FCK editor is also an open source project which has a large community and great support across many platforms.
Big thanks goes to Mauricio Marquez who made this happen by creating a mature DNN wrapper for FCK and generously contributing it to the DNN project.

Re: The FCK rich text editor replaces the FTB rich text editor in DNN 4.5+
This page on the FCK main website indicates that the FCK editor is not yet fully compatible with recent versions of the Safari browser: http://www.fckeditor.net/safari On the same page they instead advise Mac users to use the Camino or Firefox browsers for using the FCK Editor - a far from ideal solution when you consider that about 5% of visitors to any website will be using the Safari browser. IMHO The FCK editor in DNN should come with a clear warning to admin / hosts about this shortcoming.

Re: The FCK rich text editor replaces the FTB rich text editor in DNN 4.5+
I think (could be wrong) that the Safari problem is when editing text/html, not just viewing. If that is the case, all "visitors" should not have a problem.

Re: The FCK rich text editor replaces the FTB rich text editor in DNN 4.5+
There are also some outstanding issues with the Panel control and viewstate that cause some modules to stop working - hence this would be a breaking change so it needs to be well publicised here. Here is the thread where this problem was discovered: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/mid/2108/threadid/92786/scope/posts/Default.aspx#115199

Re: The FCK rich text editor replaces the FTB rich text editor in DNN 4.5+
What happens if FCK is already installed in DNN V4.4.1 and we upgrade to 4.4.5?

You should not experience any issues with the upgrade.

Re: The FCK rich text editor replaces the FTB rich text editor in DNN 4.5+
I notice that the FCK editor is packaged as a dnncore module ...the that mean i can install it like I would with any other dnn module -under HOST menu? Or do i still have to follow the instruction in the FCK install Text file ?

Save for the fact that FCK won't allow you to simply insert an image from browsing your own site. I'm assuming that's what you meant, right? Where is that blasted "Reset to FTB" button anyway?

Lancemay: to use the FTB, change your webconfig file. Glenwin & Declic Video: please post your questions to the forums

Re: The FCK rich text editor replaces the FTB rich text editor in DNN 4.5+
I haven't warmed up to this editor yet. It seems a step back from the FTB rich text editor control. I've also used telerik's editor in Gemini and although you pay for all the bells and whisles, it seems FTB was a closer second for editors. I look forward to the continued use of FCK and wish the project and members the very best!
