I've been thinking lately on getting something like the Sony Book Reader. You know with so many information on the net I'm very used to download documents, manuals, even blogs! and read them offline at night. Since I'm not a top computer geek I'm not very familiar with this kind of hardware. I was thinking also that maybe a simple TabletPC or ultramobile pc would do the job, but I'm not sure.
Has to be something realy slim and portable and easy to read with, something you would take with you to bed ( well, not for that you are thing of...).
The idea is that it should be mainly for reading and other features as a bonus. Any suggestion?

Re: Recommendation for a Book Reader / TabletPC
I have been looking forward to an EBook that used the E-Ink technology for quite some time. Sony is one of the first to implement it. Very Lightweight, Low battery consumption, and very good contrast.
The downside to Sony's implementation is that they believed that dynamic features like search and other capabilities for navigation were not important to users.
If you simply need something that will comfortably allow you to read mostly sequentially through the many documents you have accumulated then this is the one for you. If you want to follow the manic path through your documents that we typically follow on the web. Some sort of ultramobile would be a better choice.

Re: Recommendation for a Book Reader / TabletPC
I've had the eReader for about 8 months and love it. The form factor is great, battery life is very good, graphics are very crisp and the contrast is adequate. I do miss search but the other factors make it a great choice. If you plan to read in bed remember that there is no backlight so you will need a lamp (I just use a regular book light).

I think the iliad iRex is better. Take a look at it: http://www.irextechnologies.com/products/iliad If you buy any of them, please review it!

Re: Recommendation for a Book Reader / TabletPC
My cusine's husband recently bought an Iliad and he's very fund of it. There are, however, a couple of things to be aware of:
1) No brilliant colors and all that, just black/white. 2) Changing the page may seem slow (OLED is not yet affordable with good performance).
Other than that I haven't heard him complain. As far as I know it reads PDF and CHM without a problem and it's very light. You receive all necessary cables with the box plus a small bag to protect the device during transport.
I saw it in action and in general.... I want one! ;)
