I have been updating the DNN Online Help for the soon to be released DNN 4.6.0. I'm finishing off the Admin pages today and have the talents of Philip Beadle beefing up the Host section. It looks like we will be releasing the Help around the same time as DNN 4.6.0 which will be great timing.
So now to whet your appetite for DNN 4.6.0 - An improvement I wanted to share is the new look [LANGUAGE] skin token. In previous versions adding this token displayed a drop-down list of the enabled languages. This was a good tool but not that visually appealing.

Then along comes DNN 4.6.0. Now when more than one language is enabled this skin token displays a country flags icon for each enabled language. Simply click on a flag to change the portal to that language. This doesn't change your User Profile setting for Preferred Locale. What I like is that it is very hard to resist clicking your own country flag.

Re: Sneak Preview of Languages Skin Token in DNN 4.6.0
Hi Lorraine,
Is it possible to maintain the "old" drop down list? Because with some skins, it can be a problem. Any way, it's a nice enhancement!

If you have more that five languages enabled i don't think displaying flags will be visually appealing. It will be more of a visual clutter. One should be able to thoose between dropdown and flag view.

Re: Sneak Preview of Languages Skin Token in DNN 4.6.0
Important note for skinners: The new [LANGUAGE] token will not break your skins. The DNN Blue skin is also updated to use the new flags, all other skins will show the old drop down list by default!

Re: Sneak Preview of Languages Skin Token in DNN 4.6.0
Hi, is the country select box simply replaced by the country icons? Or is this a setting of the skin token?

Re: Sneak Preview of Languages Skin Token in DNN 4.6.0
While I like the visual effect of the flags, I wonder...
1. What if you have a large number of cultures to display. Do the flags just keep expanding, taking up more and more real estate?
2. Is there a way to keep the drop-down box if we prefer it, or are we stuck with flags?

Re: Sneak Preview of Languages Skin Token in DNN 4.6.0
Just downloaded dnn 4.6.0. The Language selector still displays a drop-down list. Is there a setting for activating the flags-display? Regards Nicolo

Lots of feedback and questions. Note ***The new [LANGUAGE] token will not break your skins. The DNN Blue skin is also updated to use the new flags, all other skins will show the old drop down list by default!***

Re: Sneak Preview of Languages Skin Token in DNN 4.6.0
Hi, I am using DNN 4.5.5 and need to replace the dropdown menu with the flags. How can i do this? or upgrading to DNN 4.6.0 is the best solution?
Lorraine Says: I would suggest upgrading but recommend posting this to the forums for further discussion.

Re: Sneak Preview of Languages Skin Token in DNN 4.6.0
Here is an idea of how to make the language token more meaningful. When you change the language (with or without the flag) only the DNN tokens of your site change. The actual context remains the same. This is not the flag functioning that people are used to in multilingual sites usually. How about adding a language token to the actual text (and page names and titles), so when I enter for example [LANGUAGE:en-US] the content that follows until the next language token will be displayed only when this language is selected. So I can include in the text translations to all my supported languages, and only the translation to the required language will be shown. As a side benefit, if I select a language that goes from right to left, the paragraph direction and justification will also be reversed.
