I've just left the final session for OpenForce where all of the DotNetNuke Corporation members joined the DotNetRocks crew to discuss the road ahead for DNN.

As I mentioned yesterday - Cambrian is the name for the next major DNN release (DNN 5) - and here is the overview of what Cambrian will focus upon delivering over the next year:

  • Social Networking & widgets
  • Workflow
  • Core Modue Suites - CRM and Social Networking
  • Dynamic content localization (multi-language)
  • Enhanced Administration User Interface
  • Enhanced Skinning Engine

The goal of the project for the coming year will be to:

  • Increase DNN adoption
  • Use strategic services to increase business confidence in DNN
  • Grow ecosystems through innovative programs for vendors and parties.

One final thought which may be of interest to any module developers out there, during question time at the end of the presentation the major request from module purchaser was that they wanted more modules to be verified by the DNN core as there major gripe was poor quality modules, or modules without an upgrade path. They universally agreed that they would prefer to pay a much higher price for modules and hoped the future of the DNN MarketPlace would offer them high cost and high quality modules. So if you are a module vendor - this should give you a prompt to consider certification as well as the confidence to charge a 'real' price for your work and then include documentation and other more professional support.

Re: DotNetNuke OpenForce 07 - Closing Panel Discussion: DNN - The Road Ahead

Ummm, Lorraine, I think we said that we would be willing to pay a higher price for certified, high quality modules, NOT that we would PREFER higher prices. :D I hope Philip and you have a safe trip home. LORRAINE SAYS: You're quite correct, and thanks - we arrived back safely in Australia and are pumped for DNN Cambrian.

I REALLY like what I have read so far about Cambrian. (Unfortunately, I wasn't able to see/hear much, since I couldn't attend.) However, I believe that the DNN project would benefit immensely if the DNN site itself had someone perform some SEO on it. There are many areas lacking. This would mainly be to get us up in the rankings where "DNN" or "DotNetNuke" or ".Net" aren't in the search queries made by undecided CMS shoppers.
